Is it possible to beat a Z06-GT3 with a C3, If so what do we have to do? how much weight is it possible to shed ? Does anyone know how much the body weighs. and how much it can be reduced. The 68 below weighs in at 2800 lbs. A friends similar C3 weighs in at 2700. Engine/Transmission weight is considerably less on the heavier car. The heavier car does have a Tom's 12 bolt and 14" rotors on all 4 corners. Is it possible that the Heavier car has a considerably heavier body?

Thinking about adding a five link rear suspension. Is there any major differences between the Greenwood an Guldstrand style.

Interesting car, post more info and photos.

If they are both factory bodies, it is doubtful that GM had much variation in weight. Looks like you've added a few things, how much does that rear wing weigh?

There was an episode of Dream Car Garage that put a road race Corvette (build up was on the Old School Corvette TV episode) against a slightly modified C6 Z06. I never saw the show but people said the C6Z beat the C3 fairly easily. Try and find copies of those shows.

I'm really not looking to offend, but is that immensely ridiculous rear wing necessary?

I think setting sights on the C6 Z06 is kinda aiming for the stars. It would probably take a lot of suspension and engine/driveline mods just to keep within a couple car lengths of it. It is possible though, but you probably won't have near the creature comforts the Z06 has.

Our C3's were the fastest in their day. I believe some could beat a stock Z06 but I also believe it would take Z06 money in mods to do it. It's not only wieght but technology in particular suspensions, brakes, aero.

since it looks like he races it the wing actually helps alot with downforce as does his front valance or wing whichever youd like to call it. and with that downforce means he can essentially go faster around the track and take turns better because the wings "suck" him to the ground...

I only ask because it appears to be different from the wing on the car in his avatar. I always thought the "flat design" wings were better so you could better control the downforce with the angle.

im not an expert with wings by any means im learning alot about them now. im in the formula sae if youv heard of that. we basically build mini f1 cars. from what i understand the flatter the wing the less downforce you create but depending on your speeds you dont need such a steep angle. for example if your at slower speeds like in autocross for example you want a fairly large wing thats more or less like a wall to keep you planted on the track.. im not sure on the exacts on his setup tho..

Anything is possible. But z06 has a longer wider wheel base. More capable suspension. Supeior areodynamics. A monster motor.

It come down to $$$$$$$$$$$$$$

People race z06 in time trial events with nothing but slicks and a cam (plus the obvious required safety mods).

I think the biggest weakness you can exploit is the driver of the z06.

what about ditching the chrome bumpers? We really need a detailed post about what you're running right now. What suspension mods, what spring rates, shocks, engine and trani mods, etc. That'll give these guys enough to make suggestions on what's holding you back. From what I've read so far you're already competing pretty damn well with close to stock suspension.

more info and pics!:partyon:

A friend ran 74.170 with a 73 c3 at VIR south course, another friend in a well prepared zo6 and well driven ran a 78.160,,

Its possible,, but the c3 was running in SPO and the zo6 was slightly tweeked,,,

look out for for the boosted awd Lancers

Crome Bumpers will be ditched. Thinking about dithing most of the body as well. One piece parts are probably a bit ligther. Driver side door is 22 lbs Passengerside 27 lbs can probably weigh 10 lbs or less each. The rear wing is the same on the avatar only at a higher mounting position.

The wing is made for Porsche 911 GT-2, it gives reasonable downforce.

The suspension consists of a complete set from VB&P with bilstein shocks extremes at the rear. Dual mount rear spring, no rear sway bar!

Jeep steering Box.

12Bolt Internals 4,11:1 and 4"Halfshafts

Brakes are Wilwood W6A Radial mount with 14"x1,25" Gt rotors at all four corners. There is also Wilwood setup for the Balancebar and Cluch.

Transmission is Autogear M22X with Tilton Magnesium Bellhousing and TIlton tripple plate 7.25" hydraulic cluch.

358 Engine Consist of Rodeck Aluminum Block 4,130 bore , Bryant crank 3,34 stroke, H-Beam rods, 13,5:1 Je pistons, GM 18 degree 364 heads Ti valves, Comp Special Grind 305 311 [email protected] 0.020 and 0.732 0,692 lift With Jesel 1,85 175 Rockers, Verdi 4 stage drysump and jesel beltdrive. 550 wheel horsepower on Mustang MD 1100 Chassis Dyno, 500 lb/ft on flywheel in engine dyno.

In my last race i was a tad quicker than a 996 GT3 Super Cup on Michelin Slicks. I was on Hoosier P-Metric.

Back to my question about the 5 link, any experienced C3 racers out there?
I can fabricate most parts in my shop.

is the Greenwood 5-link still available?? you can pick up some performance with a 5.5" reverse starter clutch setup......also do you have a full (out to the frame horns) roll cage?

I think most of the Greenwood parts can be made? There was a thread on cf :WTF about this in 2005. It is still there, but I am not sure if it's the real thing though? I do have a 10 point roll cage, but it ends at the centerline of the front suspension (regulations) The cage also crosses in font of the block in stead of a spreader bar. I will do some modifications on the roll cage this winter, to ease entry/exit and increase torsional rigidity and visability. The Engine will be stroked to 415 cid and be EFi'ed.

If you can get all of the measurements on guldstrands set-up that would probably be better. Twin turbo knows more about it than me.

Heres some cars that would probably keep up with the z06 gt3. I've never seen a gt3 race though so I don't know how fast they are.

check this thread out for 5-link setups:

You're obviously putting the car through its paces with some intense driving, but I look at this pic and wonder how much that inside wheel camber is hurting your grip. I realize most of the weight is on that outside tire, but the patch on the inside seems smaller than it should be. How much initial camber do you have dialed in?

Like IMSA W said above, you've got to improve the suspension, brake, and aero technology. Sounds like you've got brakes and aero taken care of, now get that suspension up to date and go hunting for a GT3!

If you know anyone I want to sell the car in my avatar (the third of three Owens-Corning built cars) it won the 50th anniversary race at the AVUS in Berlin (1971-1972), also won six vintage races overall at Road America in Wisconsin...I also have an 18* head 414" motor I would like to sell (I need to be legal with a 427" BB if I don`t sell the car)....Brodix/Weldtech heads, JE pistons, Callies crank, Dart little M block, T&D shaft rockers and the list goes on...it only has two hours on it.....trouble is they won`t let me race it anymore. I also have a 23* 406" for cheap...if you know anyone looking to win races.

Talk with Marc in the Netherlands he goes by Vtwin now (I think) He used to post under twin turbo. Marc has done a lot of suspension design for his C3 Vette project and could possibly help you out. You guys must be sitting on some North Seas oil well royalties, that Vette is RADICAL! Then when your done, go to Germany and see where you stand (I did 15 minutes in a 1.6TDI V50 Volvo wagen when I was there!) Here is the refrence: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nordschleife_fastest_lap_times#Miscellaneous_lap_times_of_road_cars

V-twin is his brother
