Here they are, pics of C5 Brakes Installed!!

The car stops AWESOME now; I can't recommend this mod enough! For those wondering it cost me $500 for the complete conversion using new parts I got from various sources.

These pics are VERY large thats why they are linked.

Here are some comparisons if the stock 12" rotors I took off vs. the new 13" C5s.....what a difference!!

Almost twice as thick!

I will get one this afternoon.

CorvZ061- thanks for the resize

Grumpy- The backs are new stock C4 parts. The swap was very easy anyone with basic brake knowledge can do it - no machine work needed.

Here are the Steps:

1. Remove Wheel
2. Unbolt brake hose from caliper
3. Unbolt caliper mouting bracket
4. Remove Caliper assembly
5. Remove rotor
6. Clean off rotor mouting surface (i also clean controlled arms and spindle)
7. Bolt-on C5 Conversion bracket using included bolts.
8. Mount C5 rotor
9. Bolt on Preassembled C5 caliper assembly to Conversion bracket using included bolts
10. Attach stock brake hose to Caliper
11. Bleed brakes
12. enjoy

Parts I needed:

C5 Rotors
C5 Calipers
C5 Caliper Mounting brackets
C5 Pads
C4 - C5 Conversion brackets and mounting bolts purchased from: http://upfronttechnologies.com/

I see the COMPLETE KIT for $900 under products

C4 to C5 Brake Upgrade Kit

but not just the adapter brackets listed?? did you buy the complete KIT or source the parts individually?
how much were just the adapter plates and bolts?

Their website is pretty crappy, I ended up calling them directly. I purchased just the brackets and bolts from them for $210 to my door. The rest of the parts I sourced from the web. Total cost was exactly $500.

I will get a picture posted of the brackets.

brackets for 85-87 are simpler.

made mine from 3/8x2 flat bar 6.25 inches long....slide the new rotor on and put on 3 lugnuts to hold it ...brace it so rotor wont turn and assemble the caliper/pads ONTO the rotor and carefully 'eyeball' caliper position for height off center and side to side...bracket becomes self-explanatory.

i made the first one from 6061-T651 alum but then decided steel was worth the minimal weight for fatique resistance

calipers from local acdelco parts..rotors napa..pads autozone..misc bolts from fastenal...total under $500

i did "face" the hubs on lathe cause runout at hubs multiplied at rotors to .006-.008 before, .001-.002 now

who'da thunk stoppin could be so much fun !!

Coolblue,

I did this mod 2 years ago on y 84 Xfire. This and the ZF-6 swap transformed the car completely. BTW, you're pretty close to me and =Jeff=. :partyon:

I posted a 'Want to Buy' on a couple of different forums for C5 front brake parts. I ended up buying everything from one guy who had a new OEM caliper, bracket, and pad assembly, as well as rotors. But I had numerous others contact me with different offers. Although, the rotors you can just buy at your local autoparts store for $25-$30 each.

WDO-MKR, how do I purchase a set of those off you, do you have a website or are you a board advertiser or anything, or do you just do these once in a while? I am seriously considering this upgrade, but will it work on an 84 with 17" Grand Sport Wheels?
