I've never actually heard of this mod. Has anyone ever done it before, and if so, are there pics of it? I like how the stock mirrors flow into the body, but something different could be cool too.

The mirrors for the C5/C6 are the same.

Score some salvage C5 mirrors, they are cheap, you'll need to modify where they attach to the C4 door. Because the angle of the base of the C5 mirror will be wrong because of the different door panel angles of C5 vs. C4.

I say try it.

I think I am going to give this a try.

The early - mid 90s Buick/Olds Park Avenue/98/Lesabre have these:

The base is also at a different angle, but I don't think that would be a biggie to fix. The C5/6 Mirror is a bit taller.

The trick is finding a pair that is both power and heated. So far I have found a power & heated driver, but am still looking for a power & heated passenger.

There was a guy on another forum who did this, I did not think much if anything had to be changed to install them..

I have the pictures SOMEWHERE.. would need to search.

I thought they looked pretty good.. I would not mind a set, I think the mmost major part would be re-pinning the harness, I also seem to remember the bolt holes line up on the C4..

I would like to do this as well

Here is the car I remember seeing.. this guy made his own rubber wedges as a mounting pad, similar to the GM ones.

Here are some images of the mirrors, it was really easy, but you have to make your own adapters. I made mine out of semi hard rubber, and it looks like a factory job. You can even wire them to work with your mirror switch, and defrost switch.

I like this, it is different.. I also think these would look good on a C3 too

Okay...now that I finally have the car painted I can start playing with these mirrors.

I mocked up the Buick mirror today. It looks awesome on there. The best part is, non-corvette people won't even notice it...but Vette people will freak out when they realize something is different.

It looks very much like the C5, but it doesn't stick out as far or as high.

Now...here is where I need your help.

Where can I get some black plastic that is upwards of 3/8" thick (or thicker) and 3" by 6" or so in size? I need to cock the mirror in a tad more toward the side window and can easily do this at the base with a black spacer...but where/what to use???????????

ABS plastic is what I'd use. I'm not sure where you would get it in a small sheet like that though. I think interior and stereo shops often use it, so maybe try there for a scrap?

Looking at marine board. I found it today at a marine repair place. It is $42 for a 1/2" x 12x27 sheet. OUCH!

However, I might make up the difference by ripping it down for others at about $10 a shot.

I promise, once you see this on the car, everybody with a modified C4 is going to want some.

I may pick up the sheet on Tuesday.

Actually, I have a new idea. Why not get a plastic jug, and pour some fiberglass resin in there and let it harden. Once it is hard, I can pop it out, cut it, sand it, drill it, and paint it semi-gloss black and use it for the spacer???????

I already have the resin and the paint. That would be zero additional expense for me at this point.

Okay dudes, test fit one is in the bag. I ended up using an empty icecream box to pour a resin mold in a wedge shape. From that, I popped it out of the box, traced the base of the mirror on it, then cut it out. In these test fit photos it appears white from sanding it - it will be gloss black to match the car next.

I have a little bit of room to adjust the mounting position. Of course, you have to use a bit of imagination as the mirror isn't painted black yet, and I have the guts out of it to make it easier to work with. Bottom line, I LIKE IT. It looks just OEM enough that non C4 people won't even know it doesn't belong. It seems to shorten the car up a bit and give it a more modern look instead of just one huge wedge.

I uploaded all the shots under my photo tab here at DC. Remember too, this car does not have an engine or trans in it, so it is sitting up like a truck.
