C5 Run Flats VS Standard tires-survey

Hi to you fellow Vetter's
my OEM GoodYears are now ready to be put to rest. Prior to making my decission pertaining to which type of tires to buy, I would like to know what you guys and gals did. Run Flats or Standard tires and why.

Thank you,

Northvetter

I switched to the Firestone Firehawks RFT. A lot less road noise, and a much smoother ride. The grip is a hell of alot better as well.
What do you all think of the ride w/GY Eagle F-1 Supercar tires on the C5? I know its the same tire as the ones on the C5 Z06, but I'm thinking of making that switch when my EMTs are ready to be replaced, although I am a little leery of running non-run flats.
BTW,
I just checked out Goodyear's website and saw that they make an EMT version of the F1 Supercar tire. Anyone running these on their Vette? If so, what do you think?
i switched to supercar tires on both my cpe's and at first i thought i had a hearing loss, they were so quiet compared to the runcraps. alot stickier too. i got 32'000 mi. on my first set , 15,000 on this set and counting. i'll be hard pressed to replace them with another brand, probably mich ps2 because i'm getting ccw t-10's soon and like the look and perf., from what i've read. :partyon:

Are you running the Supercar EMTs or regular?
regular zo6 sc tires. have portable air compressor, plug kit, just in case. also belong to tiple AAA. works for me.
I switched to Michelin Pilots on my 02 vert & am really impressed with them. Much quieter & better ride than the Goodyear run flats.

Never underestimate the power stupid people in large groups !
Non-Runflats.

I can't stand the noise and bump steer on the stock runflats.

My Stock G/Y EMT's have just 9k miles on them.

They are comming off next week,

I have stock size Sumitomo's for the rear, and 275 x 40 x 17 Coopers for the front.

I can't wait.

Hope you enjoy your new tires. I bet you'll find your car quieter and more predictable. Let us know how that combo works out.

If you got >50% tread on them, you should be able to sell those EMT's.
Cooper Zeon 2XS

I did a lot of looking and price comparing and went with the cooper zeon 2xs. They cost $800 including everything at Dobbs here in St. Louis MO. I have driven in dry and wet conditions and I am happy with them. They are considerably quieter than the factory Run flats and half the cost of the Goodyears. I went with the W speed rating which is 168mph but they do have a Y rated version rated to 186. Just did not see me driving over 170 anytime soon :). Been on them since January and very happy. Hope this helps. Also the tread design is very cool!:partyon:
EMT or not to EMT

I am about to switch to the Michelen Pilot A/S ZP (Y rated). Everyone says less noise and better handling than stock, plus almost $100 less than the Goodyears!
If you are not driving across open desert (like I do every day), than a good patch kit and a small compressor will do you fine, or just a good motor club (AAA, GM, GEICO... etc). You will have better handling, and be a little quieter (the quiet is more with other tires though). I was thinking about getting a set for the track, but my wife has to be talked in to that first.
emt or not to emt

i just recently, yesterday, went to bridgestone reo50 potenza tires and like them so far, really haven't tested them under any real driving stress, but they are quiet. i had gone thru two sets of goodyear supercar tires which i felt were excellent. i just went to a 19" rim all the way around and these were the tires ccwheels recomended. anyway, ditch the emt's and really enjoy the ride.:partyon:
