Does anyone know why chevy went with less aggressive tranny gear ratios in the c6 z06's as compared to the c5 z06?

They wanted to get a really good 0-60 number to advertise, so they went with a long 1st gear so there's no shift 0-60. Also, they felt with all that torque a regular C5 ratio setup would be ideal.

That's interesting! Thanks

Also closer gear splits (closer ratios) makes for less rpm drop between shifts. That can make a big difference in keeping the engine in the power band. The C6, Z51 manual trans has a lower first gear but the splits get progressively wider as you up shift. Good for initial acceleration but not after you get moving. A 3.9 rear end gear change would make the Z06 first gear ratio the same as a C6 Z51 and also have better gear splits. But do you really need a lower first gear?
