In NORMAL times the GM Bedford, In chassis plant has 250 workers running 3 shifts. GM confirmed that since the stay-at-home orders, they have been running 20 workers on 3 shifts producing C8 chassis. Obviously, deemed "essential" by GM, the employees volunteered to return to work during the pandemic at their normal wage.
Per GM,
...the efforts will help reduce a chassis shortage and get Corvette production in Bowling Green back up and running more quickly once things cool off.
The plant has been following the PPE social distancing rules that all of the re-opening GM plants (Scheduled for May 18) will adopt. Temperatures are taken at the door at the beginning of the shift, distancing, plexiglass dividers, etc.
My big question is why is the Chassis a bottleneck and how do they prevent it from staying that way going forward?

Also of note, about 1,000 workers have been reporting to the GM Kokomo, In. plant to build ventilators for front-line medical personnel.
