You all know about the Frunk lid - owners don't press the lid down far enough to engage full lock and don't notice the "Lid Open" message in the DIC. GM has notified NHSTA they will "recall" all C8s to implement the solution to the issue. That notice automatically suspends the delivery of new C8s until the recall starts.

The solution will be all software, but it is not complete or tested yet. So, deliveries will be delayed for a while. The solution is the following:

1. If drivers do not press the lid down far enough to fully engage the electric latch, the top speed of the car will be limited to 26 MPH.
2. A message will be displayed indicating that the top speed has been limited to 26 MPH.
3. To prevent accidental Frunk lid release, the release on the key fob will be modified and the interior door trim switch and release button inside the front trunk will be tweaked to require a longer press-time.

Despite some of the wording in the above, GM is saying that all of these changes can be implemented in an over-the-air update or owners can schedule an appointment at their dealer to have their cars updated there.

The Term "Frunk" (a combination of Front and Trunk) has been used by Corvette engineers and adopted by the Auto Media almost uniformly since the introduction of the C8 just over a year ago. Please don't forget that the rear hatch covers the engine compartment AND the larger rear Trunk which is why using the term "Frunk" is a more simple way of being very clear about which storage area is being discussed.
