Can an 80's hood be modified to fit a 69?

Was wondering would it be difficult to modify

would anyone know the difference in dimensions

its the long one I was considering trying to get to fit.

If you don't mind me asking, why not just get a correct short hood for the '69?

The wiper door and wiper system varies, as does the hod latch and release system.

I think it would be a lot easier to procure the correct short hood for the '69.

It will fit the contour of the car and the hinges will bolt up, that's about it.

The latch system is entirely different and in different locations.
I would not waste my time.

the wiper mechanism wasnt on the car when I got her, thought it would be just as easy to leave it out for the moment, possibly later down the line get the correct system.

Is the hood itself the same dimensions as a 69?

The main reason for asking: is that the hood is actually currently on the car and the locking mechanism all rigged up.

But if I change out the front clip will it fit? ( eighties clip need it to be a 69 )

Any 73-82 long hood will bolt up to the 68-72 cars but none of the later hoods will match the fender contours of the 68-72 models at the windshield and latches can be in different places.

If you want to eliminate the vent and wiper door on the 68-72s and run a long hood, you need an aftermarket hood specifically for this purpose. These hoods will match contours and are designed to use the stock latch positions.

If you are shopping for a hood, ask the provider which hood support it uses.

You could just ditch the latches and use hood pins. I have them on the '68 in my avatar.
Simplest and cheapest solution. :agree:

Other wise, sell your hood and find one with the correct latch mounts.

Are you saying you now have an 80's clip or 69 clip?

Why would you change a front clip to make a hood fit?

The latch mechanism is connected to the firewall and hood, not the clip. Changing the clip will not fix anything here.

Sell the hood and get a different one.

I don't know about everyone else but some comments have been conflicting, and things are getting confusing.

The OP is getting answers for different interpretations of what he's asking.

Original Poster, can you post some pics of your CURRENT front clip, hood, and body?

I'd like to visualize what you have to help with what you need.
