The new Car & Driver predicts a 0-60 time of 3 seconds. I can't wait for the SS vs Bugatti comparison. A $100k car coming close to a $million car wouldn't be embarrassing or anything.

even if the SS comes close to the Bugatti, its still a Bugatti, and thats all that needs to be said.

I think the #s would equal or exceed the Bugatti in most cases. With the exception of top speed. I can't see why the SS couldn't easily do 220mph.
crush the bugatti

I hope the new vette crushes the bugatti.

the current Z has it close in its sight on the nurenburring:partyon: :partyon: :partyon:

I don't. AWD will have the Bugatti faster to at least 100mph, and I believe all the way to top speed.

:agree:
As much as I love my rear wheel drive Corvettes, its embarassing to see hot AWD cars leap out several car lengths on a Z06 at launch. Fortunately the Z06's great power-to-weight ratio usually allows it to catch up and pass. Once hooked up, the blue devel will be faster yet...but still better watch out for 1000 horsepower Veyrons (fortunately they'll be extremely rare).
rwd, what about the ferrari 599 gtb, that has rwd and it flys from a stand still.

That is why the ss was testing with it, it has amazing damping technology that the vette boys are perfecting. since it is testing with the ferrari expect it to beat it:partyon: :partyon:
Can anyone tell me why the 599 GTB launches so well? This is a trivia question BTW!

The Euro (at least) versions have Launch Control.

lack of torque?
Lack of torque? I think it has around 450tq, and over 600hp. The 599GTB has a very expensive and complicated launch software program, which gives the car the perfect amount of wheelspin every time, while keeping up the revs into the V12's powerband. It really is an amazing program.

And remember, up over 120mph, weight affects accel little compared to Cd and aerodynamics. Here, the Bugatti will have the Vette covered, especially in the stability department. I don't think the Bugatti will walk away from a 100mph start, but a 2.4 0-60 time and a 5.9 0-100 time is more than anyone can hope of the SS.
all of that is part of the picture but no ones hit on the thing thats one of the most responsible for it.

OK easy hint its the thing that helps Porsche's launch so well.
Well, Porsche's launch well because of the rear-engined design. The 599 GTB has a very neutral weight dist., so that is not it. It launches well because of its launch software.
tires?

lol i thought you were asking a trick question, but yes its no secret the veyron and the 599 have advanced electronics to aid the drive to take off at maximum acceleration.

599 has more weight on the rear wheels than the Z06 (or future Z07), that means more traction.
Launch software and hardware. Engine torque management, but also clutch control.
The automated manual transmission is controlled by computer in such a way that the launch is spectacular.

If the reference is about the Porsche 997 Turbo, then the huge torque at low rpm due to turbos makes a better launch.
Bingo......the 599 GTB has a rear weight bias. 47front/53 rear and that coupled with an amazing transmission, advanced launch control, great tires and a relatively high rpm torque peak and progressive power band make for a car that launches pretty hard. The Porsche's always run so fast because of there rear weight bias too. Even the 997 S has ran low 4's high 3's 0-60 and thats only with 355 hp. Over about 100 mph....the C6 Z really takes it too the 997 TT eliminating its traction advantage.
with the Vette having a rear transaxle and being a front mid engine design I wonder how far they would have to go to engineer a rear weight bias into the Z07?

I say it is relatively easy, they can move the engine further back 5-7 inches. Even in the Z06 it is possible, but it would require changes to the fuel tank because seats would be moved back as well.
The NA Porsche 997's really lose steam after 60mph. Even the FI turbo 997 loses steam after 60. They can't compete with the vettes unless they have major mods to the 3.6 and 3.8 L motors.
0-100 because of the launch is close C6 Z to 997 TT. Its the 0-150 time of the C6 Z thats amazing because its close to the more powerful Ford GT!
