Any of you that are interested in enhancing your driving skills, sharing track stories, or watching others drive their Corvette hard, than this is the section for you!

There are no stupid questions, only stupid drivers that never asked.

From telling us about the winter projects on your racer, to posting questions about how to become involved in an auto-x club or local drag race, Corvette Performance Street Driving and Track Racing is where it's at.

Jump on in, the pavement's great!

1/4 mile Newbie

So I've made my first six passes on 2 seperate street nights. first time best se 14.09 sec 1/4 mi. Second time was 13.90. The converter stalls at 1200 rpm. I'm on street tires, Firehawk Indy500. I still haven't launched hard enough to sit n' spin on the green light. The limiting factor at this point seems to be the driver. I'd think this car would go closer to the mid 13's in it's current set-up.
Any comments on what the speed should be and/or advice for a newbie to improve skills would be appreciated.
There are plans to procharge in a few years, for now it's got to stay a daily driver.

What were your MPH and 60ft times on these passes? Often times, getting out of the hole is where the biggest improvements can be made. But dipping into the high 13's is great for a first time out.

Thanks for the interest.
Here's a progression from first to last runs. Not sure if a higher stall makes sense, we still do a lot of stop n' go traffic.

14.42s et, 2.109s 60', 95.66 mph
14.10s et, 2.117s 60', 98.73 mph
13.96s et, 2.089s 60', 100.2 mph

Those 60' times aren't bad for street tires! I took my C5 out once and the best i could do was a 2.16 60'. A higher stall won't hurt stop n' go driving too bad as long as you don't go crazy with it.

You're 3rd run obviously shows what a good 60ft time can do for ya. As far getting to mid 13's may be a matter of trying different tire pressures for launch and timing/tune settings to max your set up.

Best head over to the C3 Section and post your times and details about your '79's set up. Then see what feedback is doable for you to test and tune on the next outing. The guys over there have a much better grasp of what will work for your car.
