Ok, I've previously owned a 05 C6 coupe and loved everything about it. I live in Florida and have been seriously tossing around the ideea of ordering a vert. I'd just like to hear your opinion on the pros & cons of each. Obviously there is a decent price difference and that's what I am trying to justify. To me the coupe looks more aggressive and that's what I like most about it. So, let's hear it.....

Pros for convertible

-Chicks like it
-Nice for all those warm nights to cruise in-you lucky Floridians
-Possibly better relative resale? It seems like just about everyone with a Vette in Florida bought a vert.
-Hear exhaust better-or at all with the stock system:rolleyes:

Cons
:

-More money
-definitely looks worse with top up vs. coupe-IMO also so with the top down
-wind buffeting, especially at decidedly naught speeds
-Possible interior damage over the long run with the top down, especially in Fl

Pros for coupe

-Looks more aggresive and sporty
-Targa top still removeable for "convertible" feel
-Less money

Cons:

See pros for the vert

I think that is about it. This is a very personal choice-do you want the Corvette as a true sports car, or do you want a very fast cruiser for that nice weather?

I went through the same dilemma when ordering my '07 Coupe.

Here were the deciding factors for me to get a coupe:

-Price
-Cubic Feet of Storage Space (especially if you Golf or do Cross Country drives)
-Structural Integrity (if you ever take it to a track, a coupe will handle MUCH better than a vert because of the extra cross-body support over the rear axle)
-You can always just pop the T-Top off
-Safety... cuz you never know...
-More moving parts = more potential maintenance issues = $$$
-Coupe (IMO) looks sexier, meaner

Don't get me wrong, the Convertible is a GORGEOUS car (especially with the right color Combo). I'm from Colorado where the weather is really unpredictable. If I were from FL like yourself, I may have gone a different way.

Hope this helps, just my two cents. Let us know how it goes!

I definitely want more of a true sports car, not really into the bmw convertible cruising. You certainly see a lot of verts here in FL though. I'd say it's 50/50 with the coupes. I do play golf so I certainly need the storage space. I do love how the coupe has the targa top that's so easy to pop and store. I do plan on having this one for quite some time too, which would be more coupe friendly. I would imagine the convertibles don't age that well and end up costing a fortune.

Well, the info. is certainly helpful, thanks for the input.

Conv't

I've been a "top-down" guy since the early 60's and to me a Vette is wind in my hair (what's left of it). I've owned both type Vettes and even when I had the coupes, I had a roadster parked next to it in the garage.

Don't let price be the determining factor - you only go around once and this is not a dress rehearsal.

Whatever way you go - have fun and enjoy the ride !!!

As a current vert owner living in Florida (2004 MSG w/Black top/interior), I have a few comments...

First, the verte is great looking top down, but the coupe is definetely better looking when the top is up. If you decide on the coupe, the color pick is important especially considering the fact that you can legally tint your windows in Florida and create a more stealth look.

Second, although I enjoy all the top down driving, you need to pay extra attention to interior maintenance with dash and seat protection for the UV rays. Plus, with all the road construction going on around me (Bradenton/Sarasota), all that exterior dust becomes interior dust. I clean my interior every week if not more.

Third, driving a verte at speeds beyond 70MPH is nearly impossible to enjoy. Plus, never wear a hat that you really like because you might lose it. I have! (BTW - if anyone found a nice White Sox New Era BP Hat on or around Exit 220 off I75, I have a nice cold one waiting for you if you return it)

Fourth, you really need to consider your driving habits/patterns. My C5 verte has serious blind spots with the top up. If you tend to drive more with the top up, you might as well stick with the coupe and just take the targa roof off when you want the open air feel.

Fifth, perhaps because I have black interior, it gets really, really, really hot after driving top down for a few hours in the Florida sun. Yes, it's great during the evening, etc., but it's something to consider if you plan to do most of your driving during the day.

Overall, I am very, very happy with my C5 04' verte and I'm happy with my choice (pics in my gallery), however since most of my driving is now expressway driving / weekend trips, I would definitely consider a coupe and use the extra $$$ on mods.

I currently have a daily business (sedan) driver and I'm seriously considering swapping my car approach. Meaning, go with a coupe/ZO6 for the performance driving instead of my C5 verte and switch to a four-seat retractable roof convertible for my daily/business driver.

Hey Red, three things I wanted to throw out there:

1. Great advice above... those are some things I hadn't even thought of before making my choice.

2. I looked at your pics, you have a garage to drool over

3. Your '04 looks sick! I love that color, my mama has her 350z in that dark, sterling silver, and I think it is one of the best colors out there

Just wanted to pass along the compliments!

Thanks Mike. I appreciate the compliments.

I agree on the Medium Spiral Gray. I never really considered it a color option until I saw it in person at the dealer with the overhead lights reflecting off it. I don't understand why GM only offered it for two years. I think the C6 would look great with a gray/platinum-like color.

I forgot to mention the golf club issue. I like to golf and although two cart bags can fit in the trunk of a verte, it's pretty tight with the top down. I also have a trunk partition that needs to be removed if I carry two bags.

...but these are all great decisions to make. :partyon:

Ah well... skiing is probably still good

Are there any Corvette Clubs / Events in the Denver area you would recommend? Last memorial day, I was downtown with my girlfriend and we saw like two dozen Corvettes cruising in a parade. Any idea how to get involved with that?

(Sorry, I know this is off the topic of the thread...)

My Take

When I build my dedicated track car,it will be a coupe for sure.
But I chose a Vert for the street. There is nothing like cruising down the Boulevard the Summer admiring the beautiful women and surroundings with the top down.
Also at 90mph+ top down, you can still wear a cap. Proof in my vids below.
IMO, the C6's look a little better in a Vert than the C5's do when the top is on.
Hell, I think they all look bad a$$ when you start lowering them and making them FAT whether it's vert or coupe.

Thanks Red!

Those are all really great points, some of which I have not thought of. I think I am leaning towards going with the coupe and putting the extra $$$ into some mods (wide body, exhaust, wheels, etc.). Gotta love those sunny Florida days with the top down though :D

Good choice in the coupe.

I know what you mean about those Florida's days though-what cooler than putting down the top at a stoplight next to some hot chick, and then peeling off down the highway.;) But when you really want to drive the Vette for what it was built for-going fast-you're going to want the coupe.

Yep, it's all about personal choice and what motivates you . . . I'm more of top-down cruiser at this point in my life, so I went for the convertible. About twenty years ago, I would have wanted the coupe. Can't go wrong either way.

By the way, I get a kick out of "the convertible doesn't look as good with the top up". Although this is a matter of opinion, come on, folks - people don't buy convertibles for how they look with the top up.

Well, that's a good point 'sbksk', but in my case, I'd be putting the top down at a stoplight next to some hot guy and then peeling off down the highway, as I am a female :surprised But in some rare case like pulling up next to Angelina Jolie I might make an exception. To hard to resist :D

Also a great point 'fyreline'
people don't buy convertibles for how they look with the top up.
But it is needed more often than not.
