I suggest your friend look very carefully for a minor minor speck of a rock chip. I thot this had happened to me also (sudden unexplained craack), and when I reallly inspected it closely I found a tiny pit near the bottom of the crack--that's where the crack came from. I don't even remember a pebble hitting my windshield, but that was all it took:WTF
Cracked Windshield
I have a 2006 C6 Coupe and my friend has a 2006 ZO6. We both garage our cars over the off season. The first time my friend backed his ZO6 out of the garage, unheated, this spring in his driveway with the windows up for a short time on a sunny day he came out and his windshield was cracked. Are the windshields on the ZO6 different than on the C6. Has anyone else experienced this happening? Thanks.

Yes, the windshields are different. The Z windshields are thinner to lose weight, also cost about $1200 to replace.

Insurance just replaced the windshield in my Z51. Work done outside my office window. Fine job. I insisted on the GM HUD as required. Total out of pocket = $100. I procrastinated about this for months expecting to have to leave my ride somewhere, then return to find a crap job. Feel silly for waiting now. Looks like the day I picked it up at BG - not the second day when the ws star blossomed on the trip home.
