C3's are really safe.

This afternoon I took my youngest son out in the vette for some more experience before his driving test tomorrow. We had gone about 70 miles and were returning home. On a good 2 lane 55 mph highway he passed a van doing 30 mph. We were going 55 and he overcompensated when he pulled back in.

Well the vette went into the ditch, the front caught and the car flipped over 3 times and stopped upside down in a cotton field. We released our seat belts and crawled out of the driver side window. The engine was still running and I had to turn the switch off to kill it.

There was a small fire in the engine compartment which we put out with dirt.

As I looked around at the path I could see body parts strewn along the path including the rear speakers and t-top pieces.

My son had a few abrasions and I had to have a few staples in a cut on the back of my head. Other than that we came through this ordeal in surprisingly good shape.

The car is not in good shape. I guess I will get to see it tomorrow morning on the way to my insurance agent.

Actually it happened so quickly and we got out so quickly that we didn't have time for fear to set in.

Glad to hear you and your son are ok. I work in a E.R. and see alot of MVA's, that do not have such a good turnout. Thank God you two were alright, the car can be fixed or replaced, you and yours cant. Will keep you and your family in my prayers. Take care and put all this in God's Hands..he will know what to do!

pics

I just posted a few quick pics of the remains.
I can't help wondering how we came through this with only a small cut to the back of my head and a few scratches on my son. I was in the passengers seat.

Just remember to wear your seatbelts!

Jeesh what a mess! Glad you are both OK.

Is the car resotrable or a complete write off?
The car is in worse shape than it appears in the pics. I have it in the backyard now so I guess it about time to remove the good parts and then have the funeral for it.

So, will your son get to drive the next Vette? :D
That's up to him. After we had made sure we weren't injured the first thing he said was "Dad, I'll buy you another one". I'll be too old to drive by then .

I might let him back into the house when the cold weather comes. ;o)

That's awesome that you'd even consider letting him step foot in another Vette. Glad that the two of you made it out.

That's a shame.

So what's the next one? Any plans?
