They are really taking it in the teeth on the busted ass spal controllers. Mine never even made it out of the box. My fan controller have never worked. I have to pull the fuse on one of the red wires for it to turn off.

I guess I either need to buy a new controller or get a relay switch mechanism from Mr. Dewitt.

Tom was EXTREMELY helpful to me, made some suggestions, and so I got my dual spals from him, the man is totally competant, knows his products well, been in the buzziness for a LONG time, gotta respect that, been dealing with public for decades myself, he is a straightforward type guy...and knows :WTF he is talking about....

be surprised how many bidnesses do not know jack about the field they in....

I want their setup sooo bad......The write up in Corvette Fever was awesome!
Too boot, Tom has posted since my buying the Spals, about he willing to obtain/and test one of these Lincoln fans that seem so popular and effective....

NOW, another thing to know, there are about 50 ways to rate a fan, kinda like leaving a lover......:rolling:

open air, which proves nothing,....
mounted on a plane...center of a sheet of plywood open air around it....

in a duct...open at each end....maybe open air on one end, duct up or downstream.....

then with the shroud and our typical radiators in place as installed....

guess which rating flows more air...duh... give you 3 guess, first two don't count....

HE claims his Spals are rated 2700? cfm? installed ....ok...

just how in hell is ONE motor of what appears very similar size going to be able to flow even with a 18? inch fan on it?? well I dunno, but he going to find out....

is it enough to cure overheating in many cars?? surely....is it enough for YOUR car?? maybe....

all I know is I have had a ~16 inch '87 vette fan mounted pretty tight in the stock shroud, with a '89 V8 F body radiator in there...same core size, same brackets, stuffed with pipe wrap, the whole damn clumsey mess...never happy with it....and I know full well since it's hotter than hell here recently, that I would be cussing a blue streak without those spals...

so I hope he does do the tests and reports back to the faithful vette crowd just perzactly what is .....

This whole thing about pumps, flow rates, radiator size, fans, the whole thermodynamics thing is a bit crazy....over the years I have seen results all over the map, but one thing stands out....

BETTER AIRFLOW.....BTDT, over a dozen times allready....

 :D

:agree: Tom is A#1 in my book. I had problems with the controller and we went through two units and a bunch of phone calls. In the end we went with the thermal switch and two relays. I sent the second controller back to him and didn't think anything about it. A couple of weeks later I get a credit back on my credit card for the bad controller.

Skip the stupid controller and go with the relay. Also I'm amazed at how efficient his aluminum radiators are. My fans don't even need to come on most of the time (I've got 2 temp gauges and the motor never really gets over 190). When they do come on they cool the motor off right away.

It's a very slick, clean, and simple installation. You cannot miss with Tom. He is one of the good guys by far.

btw SPAL claims it's not their problem but I cannot see how these controllers all have the same problems without it being a design issue. Either way TOM stands behind his products.

From what I hear, Spal on those controllers is full of **** too....

must be a EE right outta design school that did them, and overlooked something....

they need get their fan guy on it, and solve the problems...

I checked my wiring, and tonight I reprogrammed the controller. Tommorow after work I will hook it all back up, and see if the problem persists.

My problem is that when I turn the car off the fans dont stop. so I have to pull one of the fuses to make it stop(the fuse on the red wire to the controller), the other wire isnt a problem.

Either my controller is totally hosed, or it just needed reprogrammed.

The ignition wire is connected to the acc lead on my fuse box, and I did verify that it is only getting current when the ignition is on.

My problem is different slightly than all the others, mine doesnt cut off. the others the fans act funny.

He's cool when you buy his rad...otherwise...
HUMM....not my expereince at all, I had not bought crap but last winter decided to go with some sort of upgraded fan combo, of course not knowing about this summer being a bitch.....but thinking of the single fan being inadequate, and knowing my rad was GM designed for a 350 v8 in a late F body, similar to a shark on airflow... and it boiled down to the fans....

we discussed it about 30 minits worth, I got the fans, and i'ts cool, literally

just don't touch the headers....
