Can the differential ratio be changed without changing the whole transaxel unit. I have a c6 AT with std ratio. Would a 3:73 be too low.

You can change just the gears. I run OEM gears in my C6 so I can not comment on the ratios.

Considering the highest (numerical) final drive anyone ever goes on a MN6 is 4.10, giving you an overall of 12.177 in first gear, I would say that is way too short of a gear.

Putting a 3.73 in a A6 would be an overall of 14.99, or 25% more torque on the tires in first gear. First gear would be useless.

The 3.73 I believe is more suitable for the A4, which came in 2.73 or 3.15 from the factory, and first gear was a lot taller too.

The A6 comes in 2.56/2.73, with a super short 4.02 first gear. Looks like the most common gear to upgrade to with the A6 is a 3.15.

Hope that helps.
