this fall i'll be removing the differential. it's developed a "whine" and a "rumble" during a float mode while driving. i'm assuming the bearings are worn and the pinion gear isn't sitting right.
never done one before, what, if any, obstacles will i encounter?
the noise gets worse as the rear end warms up, so i felt that was a bearing....(?)

Your gutsy! I would never attempt a differential rebuild. I'd definitely take it to a pro!

Let us know how it goes.

it will be a winter project, so i can take my time. being retired i have plenty of it. i'll read as much as i can, get the shop manual out and keep asking questions.

did dana build them? or srtictly GM? i was going to write to dana and ask if they could send me information.
