Just noticed a small chip in the lower gear. Does this need replacing or just file the edge down a little? Not sure why only one tooth would have a chip in it. Hopefully, the cam gear is ok.

Replace the distributor gear.
It's Melonized iron.
Summit Racing sells them.

The cam should be ok.
Check with a small Dental mechanics mirror.

:agree: They are cheap and easy to replace. Once part of it goes the rest will follow. Good insurance

I doubt cleaning that chipped tooth on that gear with a file would have any detrimental effect, but the guys are correct that the cost of a new gear and the effort too replace it is the smarter route, and both fairly cheap and fast, so it makes little sense to not replace the gear, if you look through these threads youll find useful related info

Those links are some good information. I didn't know that there were two sizes for the gear shafts. I'm going to measure mine and order a new gear.
