If Corvette's competition is going to be cars like the Chrysler Crossfire we are in good shape. I drove the car today and I think it is designed for a European midget. The car is tiny inside and out. One thing is did use is different material color schemes (which Chevy needs to consider for the C6/ Aluminum etc) on the dashboard and doors. The Crossfire is overall a complete piece of crap. The C6 should clean house and take away market segment share from any similiar competitor offerings. the more you see what is on the market the more a C6 makes sense. Go Chevy and Go American engineering!!! Still #1. I also read the Consumer Report review last night and the editors and testers are BIAS A_HOLES. They rate a boxter junk box from yesteryear over the C5. They also said C5 reliability was predicted to be poor and the top was really difficult to use. CONSUMER REPORTS CAN EAT CRAP AND DIE for care. they are a bunch of Japan kis butts that go to any extreme to play up foreign cars (specifically Japanese cars). The editors are probably engineering school drop outs that eat cheetos and watch the butts grow in the crappy cubicles all day. Anyone else feel this way? I AM BOYCOTTING CONSUMER REPORTS FOR UNFAIR PRACTICES.

All cars have downsides (C5 included). But, to pick the fricking Boxster over the C5.... what are they smoking?!!?!!

The C5 should SMOKE the boxster in all categories.

The Boxster looks like ass, too!

Makes me sick to see such anti-americanism. C5 has recieved quality awards since day one and the NERD HOG BLOWERS at CONSUMER REPORTS are bitter.

I am using consumer reports for fireplace paper and NEVER READING IT AGAIN. WE SHOULD ALL WRITE THE EDITOR.

Long live the C5 and C6.The Consumer Reports Staff are LOSERS with no life and never added a damn thing to american society.

ALL THEY DO IS HURT THE WORKING FAMILIES AND INVESTORS OF AMERICA.

The fact of the matter is Japanese "every-day" cars are far superior to American "every-day" cars.

The fit and finish of every model of Toyota is literally flawless, where as even the most expensive American cars (like the Vette) are inferior.

A Toyota Corrola will last you 300,000+ miles, where as a Cavalier will start to fall apart after 50,000 miles.

In 85 I purchased a Ford Escort right off the showroom. Brand New. Driving it home the engine went on fire. Not even 60 miles on the car and it was self destructing. A year later a friend of mine purchased a brand new Caddy. One week later she went to start her car and it would not start. To make a long story short the engine CRACKED! She then went to get it repaired and Caddy wanted nothing to do with her. Around the same time my father purchased a new Oldsmobile Cutlass. Shortly after the purchase he had a very hard time steering the car. He took it to the dealer on numerous occasions and they said nothing was wrong. Since he knew he was being jacked-around, he wrote a letter to GM. To make another long story short, GM sent an engineer all the way from Detroit to see his car. He discovered a crack in the steering column. The dealer was flat out lying to my Dad.

But wait, IT GETS BETTER!

A friend of mine a few years ago purchased a Ponitac Gand Am. He bought it brand new from a dealer. While cleaning out his car he noticed a slip of paper underneath the glove compartment. He managed to get it. This piece of paper was a VEHICLE REGISTRATION from some guy out in Montana. In other words, this NEW CAR was PREVIOUSLY REGISTERED. Out of curiosity he flew out to Montana, and simply knocked on this guys door. Immediately after the guy opened the door he replied "Hey thats my old car!". Bewildered, my friend asked how could this be? The fellow told him the he purchased this Grand Am a few months ago and returned it because it was a lemon. Evidently the Pontiac dealer turned back the odometer, sent it to the other side of the states, and sold it as new. To make another long story short, My friend sued GM, and his dealer and was awarded a brand new Grand Am plus $25,000. This did not come easy though. The dealer refused to give him his new car. He had to take them to court 2 more time to get it out of them.

Cliff Notes: When it comes to reliability, quality, and service, American cars are ****.

I am a Wonder Bread American and as proud as any patriot, but I am a realist. At one time I would not buy any vehicle that was not American, now after getting the shaft I won't buy most American vehicles.

There are only two good American cars left. The Vette and Viper. Thats it.

So hopefully from this rant you can see the Consumer Reports is correct in kissing the Japs' ass. They have every right to do so. Go to your local Honda and Chevrolet dealers and test drive an Accord and Impala. You will see what they mean.

What's the matter with U guyz?
I thought we're supposed to write about Corvettes...

Some of us like Japanese cars, some of us don't. But what does it have to do with C6??????
And the Boxster...since when is a Boxster a Corvette competitor?C'mon it's for SLK and Xfire (which is the same platform) and Audi TT, Alfa GTV, Honda S2000, and maybe MX-5 Miata for cry out loud, not Corvette!!!!It's below one category or two.
Can't be compared.

Between these and the Miata and Eclipse and co. there's actually a segment nieche which Porsche and Mercedes discovered it smartly and created the Boxster S and the SLK 320.

Vette is a LITTLE over XLR. And XLR is in the same league as Jag XK8, DB7, SC430 and the SL. Between the SL and the SLK is a HUGE difference!!!! (The Lexus copied the SLK and put it a class higher!!!!) *but this shouldn't confuse you!
It's like Boxster and 911 or something. By the way the 911 is not exactly a Turbo either! That's where the Corvette is!
Way over all these mentioned!
Since there was a word about the japanese, well, they got the Supra, the 3000GT, the 300ZX (not being produced anymore), the RX-7 and the NSX somewhat closer to the Vette.
The Supra was initially created from the Celica. Ok, they went up to the 911s height, like the 3000GT and the Rx-7, but still not Corvette.
Don't take seriously what the mags are comparing, nevermind about the pice tags either, the Vette's only competitor is the 360 Modena, Jag XKR, Lotus Esprit, and the Gallardo lately. That's it.
The Countach used to be, but the Murcielago went up a step higher.
Oh and for the Z06 there's the Viper and the Porsche Turbo and the Maranello at some point. But Maranello tends to swing towards the GT class a bit more.

All these cars share seriousness, and they all gathered together to compete each other, but all these cars lack at a little something that ONLY CORVETTES and VIPERS have! And that's freedom! The feeling of freedom, which the design of the Vette and the Viper emphasises very much. Besides the Vette created itself a category, at a time when there weren't a lot of these cars. Before Porsche, and before Esprit. Only the Mercedes had its SL back in the 50s! Thats a fact!!! Can't be argued!

But what the hell am I talking about and who cares what I'm saying at a Corvette forum????

Good morning, everyone. I am going to move this to the "other cars" section.

I drank way to much last night as it was my wifes birthday. So, STOP yelling, it's murder on my hangover.

Show the love....

Rich,

Wow, do you have friends with bad luck!!! I can't bring myself to buy anything but American. So far, I've been lucky. No major problems with any vehicle that was not covered under warranty. The above includes two Vipers, a Vette, a Ford truck, and a LeBaron. My next toy will be an SRT-4. Don't laugh, the thing is a blast. :smokin:

Isn't the motor and drivetrain in a Neon made by Mitsubishi?
Don't know, but I do know it's tough to find an American car built in America. I do know that my vert top for my Vette was made in Mexico. Who knows whatever else was made there. :(

I'm still going to buy "American" cars.

GET OUT OF THE 1980S!

Let's agree to disagree here. Corvette's are stronger, more reliable, more spacous and a better value than 90% of the cars on the road. You are living in yesteryear with the Escort and pontiac story. Take a car like the Cadillac STS, Olds Intrigue, Alero or any new chevy or GM car, the quality is excellent. It may be that you are upset because of things in the past and are taking it out on American car manufacturers, you are entitled to your own opinions.

Here has been my personal experiences among relatives and friends: these were their cars and here was their feedback:
1) 1999 Saab 9-3 Complete crap and was into the dealer every month.
2) 1996 Toyota Corolla: Transmission went after 55K miles and had MAJOR elecrical problems shortly afterwards.
3) 1999 BMW 540i: Major overheating problems after 80K miles. Several electric and suspension problems.
4)1999 Mercedes E Class: Sevreral quality problems
5) 2001 Mercedes SLK many problems with the top and electronics.

And these are just off the top of my head! American manufacturing is AHEAD of the competition. Specifically in style and comfort compared to Japan and definately in reliability and performance compared to Germany and the rest of Europe.

Frankly I am just sick of Anti-Americanism and widely read publications such as Consumer Reports who is completely bias and does not state all the facts when writing reviews and rating cars. You want to support foreign economies? Move to Japan and live in a highrise, that is my message to Consumer Reports. GO CORVETTE! TOP IN RELIABILITY VALUE AND PERFORMANCE.
