Do you know exactly how much R-134a is supposed to be in there? Don't take the AC guy's word, know for yourself. That way you can confirm that he is looking at the right data. Also, he should have injected some green dye into your system. By now, that dye should be all over the area where the leak is. Avoiding fixing the issue is really throwing money in the wind.

You are having two common issues. First, post your codes. Then, let's address the dim display, because you must be able to see it in order to fix one of you other issues.

To fix the dim display, there are a bank of 8 resistors that you will need to reflow the solder on. Check out this recent thread for a DIY. Once you get the display working again, you need to tell us if your outside temperature reading is correctly. If not, your outside temperature T-stat is bad. This will cause the problem you are having where the auto mode button not working.

Gordon told you how to do a reset of the actuators, although I want to be a tad bit more clear. Here are the instructions from the service manual.

Re-Calibrating Actuators
Use the following steps to perform the calibration update:

1. Turn OFF the ignition.
2. Remove the battery positive voltage circuit fuse of the HVAC Control Module (fuse #27).

Important
The module memory will not clear if the battery positive voltage circuit fuse is installed in less than 60 seconds.



3. Wait 60 seconds.
4. Install the fuse.

Come back here when the display is working and we'll continue.
Junkman2008, I want to thank you for this instruction on Re-Calibrating Actuators for the passenger side. Just performed this task on mine and now I won't have to listen to my co-pilot belly ache about not being able to control the temp on her side. Your instruction worked like a charm.

THANKS FOR YOUR HELP! I found the panel and fuse. I removed the fuse for 5 minutes and reinstalled it. But when I turned on the ignition I still did not get a display on the unit. I tried pushing the buttons without success. Any more suggestions, I greatly appreciate the help,THANKS DN!
Hi,.. I had the same problem, read up on how to fix it, through Junkman & others. Then I found a guy on "flea-Bay" who offers fixes. I used him and he turned it around in less than a week, I got a Christmas special, but I believe he does the repair for $49.95. Search C5 Climate control on e-Bay and you should find the post to review.

98 C5 with HVAC issues

My HVAC is out of control! The buttons don't seem do anything, I have to push this that and another to get something to come on and usually it is heat on the passenger side and cooler air on the driver's side. Fan on high or nothing at all !!

I reset the actuators with no luck.

I ran the codes and have:

B0361 Left Actuator Feedback Short to GND
B0363 Left Actuator Feedback Open
B0365 Right Actuator Feedback Short to GND
B0367 Right Actuator Feedback Open
B0446 Right Actuator Out of Range

Loosing my cool --- literally!

Welcome to DC Bourbon. It looks like you might possibly have an electrical issue. Do you have a shop manual and a good multi-meter? If you don't' you will probably be in for a lot of frustration. Just sayin'
