Targa Tasmania
I think you'll find that photo was taken during the Targa Tasmania. Tasmania is a state of Australia, and they hold a road race around the island every year.

The next one is April 27 to May 2, 2004. By the T99 on the number plate, I'd guess that was during the 1999 race. This would be a brilliant event to watch and an even better one to compete in. Six days of flogging "what ya got" around some pretty spectacular public roads. Many different classes for everything from veteran and vintage cars right through to brand new Porsches and Ferraris. Lots of beautiful and rare collectables.
BTW, that back end is typical of Australian Corvettes. Our laws specify amber indictor lights that are separate from the brake/tail lights. Corvettes have never been sold in Australia by GM. All the examples here are private imports. From what I can tell, the taillight combination must be sourced from European spec cars as built by Chev. I think the actual Euro version has the amber light inboard. As for why the centre stop light is not there, that's anybody's guess. Aren't the rear panels on C4 interchangable among most of the C4s? I know the flutes/gills/whatever they're called are not from an '84 like mine.
You'll also find that car is Right Hand Drive, so the pilot is sitting on the wrong side.
