if I remove the lenes on my '71 for cleaning and replacing the gaskets, what can or shouldn't I do to the fiber optics while I'm at it.

Can they be taken apart and cleaned?....I don't know, I havn't attempted yet? I don't want to screw around with something that is working fine now.

I thinking this would make the fiber optic light brighter?

heck yeah, man! '71 was the last year for fiber optic light monitoring system. Not sure if there's much you can clean though.
Wow, see, learn something new every day! I've had my head so far into the C5 game for so long now, this C3 stuff is like a whole new world:thumbsup:

Are the fiber-optic leads set firmly in their respective sockets at the console end? The sockets are little plastic cylinders and are prone to having pieces broken off such that the end of the fiber-optic cable isn't really plugged in but ssort of just laying there.

Take a q-tip and some alcohol and clean the ends of the fiber optic where it connects to the light housing. That may help. Don't expect much. Even new they weren't real bright.
