Fuel Gauge Goes To Empty After Filling Up. After 5 Miles Or So, Works Ok. Tried The Techron Thing. Any Other Suggestions?also, Tire Pressure Monitor For Rr Tire Says 9 Lbs/ Stopped And Bought An Air Gauge, Had 36 Pds. In Her. Any Ideas Appreciated. AFTER BEING ON THE ROAD FOR A WEEK, NOTICED LEFT REAR TIRE LOW. PUTER WAS SAYING RIGHT REAR WHEN IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN LEFT REAR. MUST HAVE GONE 500 MILES ON THE RUN FLAT TIRE.

I've been in deep discussion with my master mechanic about this fuel issue. His take on the whole thing is don't let the fuel level get below half of a tank and you won't have this issue. He based his decision on studying the way the fuel system works. Although he's right, my argument is it didn't work that way when the car was new so obviously there is something that can be replaced to fix this issue. We are still going back and forth on it...

As for the tire pressure monitor, just replace it. It is probably one that has been on the car since day one. The battery inside those things doesn't last forever.

The only true fix to the fuel sensor problem is to replace both pump/sending units at about $500+ a pop. If the Techron trick didnt fix it, its most likely your only option. Your DIC should tell you which pump is bad, I have problems with the right, but the techron trick helps.

Id agree with Junkman, replace the TPS monitor

The belief is that the lower quality gases at say 7-11 or other no name corner gas stations have excess sulfur which builds up on the contacts of the sending units. The Techron helps dissolve it and give you a clean contact.

Atleast thats what Ive read

I had the problem with the fuel gage while the car was still under warrantee. I was told it had something to do with the hydro carbon or something "brands" add to their gas. Whatever the issue was, they only had to change someting in the sending program. They did something with the computer and I stopped buying my gas from Gulf where I had been noticing the problem and haven't had the problem since. That was about 3 years ago. I don't think it makes Gulf bad, I still use their gas in other vehicles.

The trouble with the fuel gauge in the C5 is that is that the float has a slider that slides across brass strips and fuel has sulpher in it and tarnishes the barss, Tests have proved that Chevron fuel helps reduce the tarnish, I had pictures of what is happing, But I can't find them. One of the best things you can do to prevent this is to run Chevron fuel, The additive in the fuel eats away the sulpher build up, If you don't have fuel guage issues you might think about this before you do.

Any additive I can add to my fuel to remove it ? Techron is all I know to add (still need to add it) and the only gas stations near me are Sunoco, Delta Sonic, Mobil, Noco, Citgo

none of the top fuel carriers :bang

Tire Pressure Monitor For Rr Tire Says 9 Lbs/ Stopped And Bought An Air Gauge, Had 36 Pds. In Her. Any Ideas Appreciated.
You might try inflating that particular tire to around 45lbs. , drive a bit and see what the DIC tells you re: pressure in that tire. If the sensor is functioning correctly you'll get a high pressure warning, let the air out to about 29 cold or 32-33 hot and see if it then functions normally. Sounds weird but worked for me........OR the sensor may just be on life support:D

I have had the fuel gauge issue for months now ,tried the Techron and Seafoam thing several times with no results, considering the cost of replacing the sensors ,I just fill her up and reset my milege each time I know I get at least 28 mpg so I figure I can go 400 miles at least on a tank so thats where it stands.
