Got my 2001 coupe a month ago. Two weeks after the guage stayed on 3/4 full for a little..then...You guessed it..EMPTY.
Tryed STP fuel injector cleaner for the heck of it.
Two weeks now works fine..can watch it go down as I drive :)
Love this car..awesome website all.

So far it looks good..but I still reset my trip meter every time I fill up..its an old Harley habit..even if I get it fixed..never trust it..I keep hearing about people getting it fixed two and three times.

TSB out on this

Talk to a local dealer you like to use.

There is a TSB bulletin out on this. My 2000 coupe did it and they pulled the bulletin and fixed it. Hasn't done it since.

Apparently, the sensors in the gas tank which is on the right and left side of the car are prone to sulfur buildup from bad gas and that kind of thing.

Also, if you goto www.corvetteactioncenter.com they have a section with TSB bulletins and you can pull them up and look at them.

Hope this helps.

Here is the bulletin

Here is the link...hopefully this will take you right to the bulletin

http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/kb/question.php?qstId=243

--------------------------------------------------------
Source: Chevrolet Dealer Service Bulletin
Number: 01-06-04-022
Subject: Inaccurate/Erratic Fuel Level Gauge Readings (Install New Sensor, Strainer and/or RH Fuel Sender Assembly)
Model Year: 1997-2000 Chevrolet Corvette

Condition

Some owners may comment about inaccurate/erratic fuel level gauge reading conditions such as those indicated below:

Fuel gage suddenly drops to E (empty) and CHECK GAGES message illuminates (DTC P1431 or P0461 set).

Fuel gage does not go to F (full) after filling fuel tank.

Vehicle runs out of fuel while the gage still indicates fuel is available.

Cause

The conditions indicated above may be the result of one or a combination of more than one of the causes indicated below:

Stuck or intermittent sticking of the sensor float arm.

Clogged/restricted R.H. fuel sender assembly jet pump.

R.H. jet pump unable to transfer fuel due to fuel vaporization resulting in bubble accumulation in the fuel strainer.

Correction

Inspect the Julian date codes located on the bar code labels attached to the R.H. and L.H. fuel level sender assembly cover plates as shown in the figure. If the R.H. sender date code is less/smaller than "01301", replace the complete assembly with a new fuel sender kit indicated below by model year. If the L.H. sender date code is less/smaller than "32791", replace the existing fuel sender sensor and strainer with those components contained in the applicable sensor and strainer kits shown below by model year.

To insure correct installation, follow the service procedure contained in the applicable Service Manual and the instructions contained in the service kits.

New TSB for your 2001

Here is the TSB for your 2001

Technical Service Bulletin
02-06-04-010A - 06/27/2003 '99 - '02 Corvette Erratic Fuel Gauge Reading (Reprogram the PCM)

Revision of Bulletin Number 02-06-04-010 (Section 06- Engine).

Condition:
Fuel gauge intermittently indicates EMPTY then return to the correct fuel level indication.

Cause:
Fuel blends containing aggressive sulphur compounds react with the fuel sender assembly (card), results in voltage spikes induced on the fuel level signal to the PCM. Use of another fuel blend and/or additives may reverse this reaction and return the system to normal operation.

Correction:
Reprogram the PCM with the new service calibration which is available in the June 2003, Techline® TIS release sent to the dealers on 6/28/03. Use the TIS Version 7 or later data update.

Wow,
Thank you so much..great info.
I figured it probably was a build up of some kind because this was somebodies weekender ride and had build up of some kind from sitting around. I am driving it 100 miles a day as my daily commuter,if I gotta go to work evry day might as well do it in style.

i had the problem once, and a carbon issue also.one can of BG44K,and all problems solved, and my engine power came back too.fuel injector cleaners are way to mild.it's been two years,i add a can to the tanks every 6 months.if you replace all the sensors, rods, etc,it's just a matter of time until they get coated with sulfer also.good luck...:buhbye:

Hey spikeman,
save yourself some trouble and please pour a $ 17 can of BG44K,let the whole tank get used up,your problem will go away.this was recommended by c4/c5 specialist, and it works.:buhbye: i use a can every 6 months.

Hmmmm.
that sucks.it's been a while since i researched this, back then, the mainland folks were getting it at Wallmart,Checker Auto,Napa. And G.M. most G.m. dealers too.My sales guy says he never heard of the stuff,i said,"your vette mechanic just poured a can into a C5".He said,"that is G.M. top engine cleaner".that was a lie.I saw the can.
Now i get it from the Chevron station, have to ask the mechanic for it,not the counter-person.good luck.:buhbye:
