I helping on a friend's boat...350 chebby V8, Mercruiser OD....it has a canister looking fuel filter....looks like a oil filter...so question is....when we put alky in the tank to suck up some water, if any,...what will be the expected reaction with this fuel filter???

will the water be picked up? pass through and burn?? or will it be contained?? or are we just looking at it rong???

anyone....I know this is slightly OT, but in reality, we face winter operation with our vettes, and they ARE both Fiberglass NO??

Marine fuel filters have a smaller porosity(sp?) than automotive filters. I suspect it's because the introduction of water into the fuel is more likely in marine applications. THe worst would be the filter plugs because even with the alky in the fuel it won't pass.

I usually just unscrew mine, empty the contents into a glass jar if i see no water i just return the fuel to the filter and put it back on. Keeping the outside of that filter wiped down with oil helps a lot too!
