Gear swap in Tampa...

Hello, it's been a while since I've been on here. I know there are some guys here from the Tampa area. I'm looking for a reputable shop in the area (preferably Brandon) to swap out the 2.59  gears in my '88 automatic. I'd like to go with a 3.07 or 3.54 at the most. Thanks.

Raidmagic should chime in soon, he's the C4 go-to guy around here, and I know he just did a cool rear end swap on his 87:thumbsup:
I bought a rear all set up and installed it myself in the car. If you can find someone selling a complete chunk with the gears you want let me know and I'll help you put it in. If you are wanting to put gears in your center section I'm afraid I'm not much help. The Corvette shop did my dad's but they used an outside source and the guy is a real dipshit. It was a hassle for my dad. I would call Antivenom and see if he does it. There is also a member on here JoeB. he has a shop over in Pinellas that sets up his stuff and he installs it, maybe we could pull your center section send it there to have it redone then put it back in. Is the car your DD?
Raid, thanks for the offer! I might take you up on it. No, it's not my DD. I was just gonna pull the pumpkin out and just take it to a shop for the gear swap. I know better than to attempt it myself. But, if I can find the whole unit, that would definitely be the way to go...cheaper anyway. That'll leave a little more $$$ for the new exhaust...LOL I'll look around and see what I can come up with....thanks!

A few years back when I had my gears done I just took my car to a place here in town (sorry, not in florida). When I went to pick it up I was bsing with the guy and he made a comment that he wished I just dropped off the housing, since it would have cut my bill in half.

At the time (and I still never do) I didn't have the free time to sink in a mod that detailed.. if you can, do it.
Here's a great write up that some really smart guy did. Check it out. The pics are great too.

4 hours seems very short to do that swap...great job! The 3.73 must just eat tires. I can hardly get a bark right now with those weak arss 2.59's...:thud:
.............. I would call Antivenom.
:agree:
www.agearworks.com this is the place that set-up the rear that raidmagic purchased from me......they specialize in "JUST" rear ends, NOTHING else.....they've been doing all my performance rear end work for many many years....there honestly about the best you'll find in florida......well worth the drive If your wanting things set up perfect(for both strength and low gear noise)...........PS: don't even bother with any ratios below 3.45.....seriously a total waste of time and money:D ...........Joe:thumbsup:

Very true......many times pulling the center section out yourself (and putting it back in after the gear work)will cut the bill WAY down under half........like you mentioned, by all means do it if you can.......it's a 2 hour job after you've done it a few times:thumbsup:
I'll give both Gear Works and Antivenom a call today. Yeah, I try to do everything myself on this car. It's not my DD, so I have plenty of time...thanks!
