Hi, I am a greek guy living in athens and huge corvette fan! I am planning to buy a 08 vette convertible (not available here for the next 6 months the least!)

The current 07 1LT/1LZ prices here are the following:

CORVETTE Convertible 6.0 auto 106790 euro (=143,087 USD)
CORVETTE Convertible 6.0 man 101990 euro (=136,656 USD)
CORVETTE C6 Coupe 6.0 auto 95190 euro (=127,545 USD)
CORVETTE C6 Coupe 6.0 man 90390 euro (=12,111.3 USD)
CORVETTE Z06 7.0 V8 man 113950 euro (=152,681 USD)

The 1LT/1LZ US 08 prices are the following:

COUPE $45,995
CONVERTIBLE $54,335
Z06 CORVETTE $71,000

Dont you think something is wrong here? Does this huuuge price gap seem logical to you? Because it doesnt to me! (and here in Greece salaries are only 1/3 of US ones)

That sounds about right. Believe me, there is a premium on Z06s....I know, I only have the Z51.

Carbon fiber wll do that.
of course there is. I am a reasonable man, I am willing to pay the extra bucks for the Z06 over the coupe/convertible, because it is worth it! I was actually talking about the price gap between Z06 here (here=greece) and Z06 in the US. 152,681 USD - 71,000 USD = 81,681 USD price difference for the same product :WTF . I undestand that the american market is a lot more liquid and there has to an import premium, but still.. Thats a huge amount of money for a small country like greece with small wages. GM should really reconsider the pricing of their cars outside the US. Thats all I was saying.

Sorry, I guess I didn't understand what you were trying to say. Now I understand. I think there are several factors of why the prices of Vettes are higher in other countries than in the U.S.

You would think that since the dollar is weak compared to Euros, Corvettes would be cheaper. I'm not an economist, so I have no idea how that works.

Thanks for your reply Buhma! I think it doesnt take a harvard economist to realize that when the same product costs 81,681 USD more in another market (in a globalized economy), there has to be at least some mispricing and rip-off going on. The corvette is not just an american iconic sports car. Many people from all over the world want to have one because is such tremendous value for money! But unfortunatelly this value for money remains just within the US borders. Here (=greece) the GM representatives have priced the corvette coupe equal with the porsche carrera S (~100.000 euro) simply because they consider it equal and a direct competitor to that car. They didnt realize that the corvette is supposed to be cheaper and better than the carrera S, everywhere in the world and not just in the US
