First guess is that the plastic headlight actuator gear is stripping out. You might have a look and if it is, go ahead and order a replacemenmt

Right way to Fix

my left headlight is making a grinding noise when I close them. Do I need a new motor or ?
Common problem-GM cut some corners here to save a penny. I decided to go with new complete motors, a little over $100.00 ea. at GM Direct. Thought if going to all the trouble it was better to replace than to fix gears. Easy to do from top, remove hood bolt, shroud, cover and the headlight assembly. You can then replace motor easy. put back, spray with CD2 . No problems for 4 years now.:buhbye:
Good luck
