I guy told me when you pull the hood lever the hood should pop open on its own to the tune of about 6". He said the small hydraulic shock like things in the nose of the hood did that. Of course, my hood does not pop open at all. I pull the lever and it simply unlatches the hood and I have to go out and raise it all the way up. most of the time the passenger side does not unlatch very well and I have to walk around and pull it up a little to thoroughly unlatch it then walk back to the drivers side to lift it up all the way. If every thing works the way it should what happens when you pull the hood release lever?

I own three c4 corvettes, on all three the hood only POPS UP ABOUT 1" AND THE HOOD LATCHES MAKE A DISTINCT SOUND WHEN THE HOOD UNLATCHES, YOUR CORVETTE APEARs TO NEED THE LATCHES ADJUSTED, loosing the lower pass side latch, and oiling it with (moly) grease, then closeing the hood and opening it a few times, then tighting the latch assembly in place and repeating the procedure, on the driver side, will usually allow the hood to align itself, and getting the hood to function well.

heres the tool to open the hood,if its so stuck that it won,t open, once its open ,then check that the latch connector cable is opperating correctly and both slide latches fully retract when the release is pulled, if they do and the hood still does not pop open ,the hoods not centered correctly losen the bolts that hold the spring catch latch mechanism on both sides of the car , (ONE AT A TIME starting with the passenger side first, shut and open the hood then tighten the latch in its new slightly differant position, oil the latch mechanism with MOLY SPRAY OIL

then DRILL a 1/4" drain hole in the lower hood latch support brace to let water drain as thats one of the main causes of rusted and stuck latches (water sitting traped in the latch support then do the driver side, shut and open the hood then tighten the latch in its new slightly differant position, oil the latch mechanism with MOLY SPRAY OIL

then DRILL a 1/4" drain hole in the lower hood latch support brace to let water drain , recheck the connector cable adjustment and that the latches on both sides fully retract when thec latch is pulled, if you followed instructions it should now work

Thanks Grumpyvette...

I will do that as soon as the car gets back from the paint shop. By the way Grumpyvette the cam you suggested checked out and I have it. I got it from a local speed shop includes lifters, $178.00. Kragen does handle Crane but was $273.00. Also, the shop out here and Crane in FL agreed that the 114142 was smog legal here in CA. So, I got my cake and I'm about to eat it too. I have decided to get the 1.6 rockers,(this is like an addiction isn't it), oh well, could be worse things. Thanks for you input. Roger

My HOOD pops up about an inch the front rubs a little when closed though.

The question has been answered time to run the thread into the ground:laughing:
