Well someof you may remember a former thread where I wanted reverse hinges, from cowling not front....so I can do a up/over air induction....

one of the things is my hood was heavy as hell, so I cut out all the original paneling pieces from under the BB add on hood bulge, and some supports for the thin aftermarket/cheep scoop....

it resulted in a significant weight savings....so much so in fact, I am going to do the insanity of drilling the hood for pins up front, and use the stock latches for the rear, as a temp measure....and IF I can live with it, maybe forget about the rear hinges.....

so for now, anyway, it's a 1/2 setp measure....now to locate the pins correctly and STORONGLY so it stays on a whatever speed I can get away with.....160?.....

Why not remove the hood skin and just use that? All racers do that, add some g-zus fasteners and you're golden.
Yeh, I hear you TT.....but the facts are this is a street driven car, and the roads are crap, the speed bumps are legendary (dumb ass bastards installing them/calling for the install) rumble strips near the school....

now the vette is mucho better for the Willy Stein shocks, then the old KYB's on there....but I stil have that nagging feeling that hood will need support more than a racer would necessarily need....or want...weight is important to me, but not a racer's overriding factor....I"m not shaving 2 seconds off a 2 minit SCCA race....it's a daily driver I have FUN with....besides, I"m a cheeep bastard outta necessity.....

I find it not all that heavy right now, and it's just sitting on the car loose....

I having troubles with all the freeking fires here in Georgia and now I think south of me here....spent all morning out in the forest fire smoke over the city/burbs....it's not fun....throat/voice/lungs/acid-fire....feel like I smoked 3 packs today allready....outdoors so thick I can't see Ernie's house allmost....

we need some damn RAIN, it's a reepeet of '98 allready....sux....

so..you want to do away with the hinges and use pins on the front and maybe do away with the latches on the rear? how are you going to keep the rear on?

OH, well maybe I need make it more clear...sorry....

ME thinks to leave the rear latches now, to see how they work out with locating the hood on road surfaces when I do the front pins....also they have a spring there to pop the hood enough up so as I can grab the edge to lift it off easy enough....

all fine, I could slide a spring under the desired hood pin studs also, of course...
but if that all works out, I dunno for sure what I may do.... eliminate some heavy stock fasteners and go for pins or what???

the Zeus fasteners are fine for racing, but I a bit concerned with looks still, and hood pins are olde tyme, and I just like the appearance....
not that the car is all THAT great, but paint is the last thing to do, gotta prove the mechanicals first...IMO....

kinda like building a house...the last thing is paint...

I have 6 Dzus fastners on my lightweight hood...pain in the ass lining them up every time...I can`t imagine what a pain a heavy lift off factory hood will be without hinges...

Yeh, I hear you man....what with age and all not in my favor anymore...

but the hood TODAY is light enough I can lift it off and on easy...course, i'm 6'5" and ~225 lbs and a contractor/remodeler, so get my workout OTJ often enuff for a part tymer anyway....that hood is nothing...

so I just well may wait till the smoke clears outta here, damn swamp fires...and go for the front pins, rear latches, just to see what is...is....

then if it's too much to whenever is too much too much...I can do the hinges then...maybe....probably....

I've been working 'twards an over the rad intake for some time now and I just can seem to get enough clearance without limiting the hood uptravel

My latest thought is to abandon the over the rad approach and just use some 3 1/2 " sillycone hose down and around behind the rad with a TPI 90* off the Throttle Body and come up to a scoop/filter in the front license plate hole.

Keep us posted...

I have been using hood pins on my one piece (four)and like em.I have the pins attached to the hinges in front for just tilting, or I can lift it off if it is in the way.If I don't pin down the rear,it will lift about two inches at 55mph at the rear.(I have custom spoilers for added cooling)The trapped air lifts it, but never any more than that because of the down force on the outside.

This is my ram air project. No duct work yet.Might not use any.

I thought of that route also...and have heard comments from later model guys....C4-5-6 about water ingestion and hydraulic lock...as in destroyed engine....

not that it IS a huge concern...BUT....it IS Florida...and one never really knows for sure....so?? keep the induction up off the road...
I have to admit it does look COOL though....

and it's not just floods....getting a aircleaner all wet is not good for anything...eh??

Water ingestion can be delt with by the hose routing and design of the airbox plenum... piston engine A/C do it all the time...

My other thought was to do a 180 off the TB and come up in the plenum that comes off the base of the windshield to feed the air vents... I dont have a heater core... The problem there is that the intake noise of the ramjet would necessitate EAR PLUGS

hehe....yeh I hear it, ....the open scoop facing w/s see site for embarrasing pix of install...is quite loud when throttle is applied, especially in light traffic....

dunno what to expect with open top hood reflecting back to me....drove plenty with hood off, so not so much worry, yet....
