Does anyone know if the hot water valve on a 1985 is Normally open or closed? Mine is leaking and the only replacement I can find is Ecklers for $150. I want replace with another car's if possible.

normally closed. if you use the main pipes and cut the current valve off you can use a standard heater valve. if you go to autozone and order part number 74612 it fits right into the input side. little PItA due to short hoses on each side but works better than the original for about $10.

Normally OPEN, will close when vacuum is applied.

I used the B69V valve from this site, but there is probably an equivalent at any auto parts store if you know what to ask for.
