How come Corvettes bring out the A-hole in others

Have you ever noticed that it seems some drivers drive more aggressively around you when your in your vette. Its something I have noticed over the last ten or so years, if I'm driving around town in my truck or suv people are less likely to pull out in front of me or even try to cut me off, but it seems like every other time I take one of my vettes out some dipshit either cuts me off, rides my ass or pulls out in front of me:WTF

Tonight when me and the wife were coming home from dinner I had some idiot pull directly out in front of me forcing e to brake hard then he flips me off:WTF its a good thing the wife was in the car or my more juvenile side might have come out, it just really makes me wonder if the rest of you have had experiences with people being petty fools just because they saw you were in a Vette and they weren't and just an fyi I had never seen this guy before tonight when he pulled out in front of me on a busy road.

What gives is this a common thing that owners of Vettes experience

Most people are pretty nice to me when I drive one of the Vettes. I mean, people come up and talk to me all the time at gas stations. They don't do that when I have the Suburban. :laughing:

I get the same reactions at gas stations , stores ect with people coming up and talking to me which is cool and flattering:thumbsup:, but it really seems like when I'm out just enjoying a nice cruise around town someone decides that its time to ride my ass 2 inches off my bumper, cut me off or pull out of front of me:thud: and its allways someone that seems to just have a problem with people that drive so called high end cars (had the same problem with a Lamborghini clone that I had)

I agree with Patrick about people generally being friendly when I'm out of the vette, but it is a different story on many occasions while I'm driving it.

I've noticed people mostly driving too closely behind me, and the occasional cutoff.

It happens even with my C3. People want to look at it and get near it. Its not so much the driver as it is the Vette.
They become aggresive be cause "Vettes" are supposed to be fast and they want you to get on it a little. Most people are cool about it.
If I get a tailgater, I pull over and let them pass because its not worth having some smart ass hit the rear of the car.

WOW I will have to side with RattVette on this one....it seems to me that every dad in a minivan has to ride the Corvettes ass to prove that he hasn't handed is manhood to his wife to act as a purse warmer. My wife and I went to Indy for the weekend and the entire ride home I noticed it. I guess they were just pissed cause their wives made them buy a van that could transport the entire soccer team and we have a Vette, don't know but it is funny to watch. All I know is I am driving one and they are not, so the smile on my face is because I love my ride....ha ha ha.

I get the same thing especially with Mustangs. They need to get next to me at a light so that they can race me. Do they know that my car came out of the factory with 185 horses? Do they think I'm going to drag race them and leave my differential at the light? Look out-I'm rebuilding my suspension this winter!! (and I added some horses)

Most of the time it's friendly people though. I get alot of teenagers digging the car. They act like it's from back to the future.

The tailgating I get from ricers. Also late at night coming home from work, they'll pull up beside me and rev their engines with their fart cans. You know the ones where the car makes a lotta noise... but barely even moves.

The tailgaters, I'll be doin' 65 or 70 and it's usually two young punks, some guy that wants to impress his friend or girlfriend, so I do the reverse chicken thing, foot off the gas , no brakes, and let 'er slow to 10-15 mph. Now the punk has to contend with rear ending me AND the people coming up fast on HIS rear end. It really throws 'em off and they really don't know what to do because it's so unexpected. :devil:

Gas stations and cruise ins are the best when it comes to people stopping by and asking about your car. Whatever you do don't go to a car show and win something!! It seems like the others get on the phone and call everybody they know to make sure you have alot of fun going home. It's gotten to the point that I've considered taking off my outside chrome mirrors when I'm at one because you can bet that at sometime during the show they are going to get twisted around or turned so I can watch the birdies overhead.

My take

I had my C3 out of service for a couple years. On the occasion of my first shakedown ride after an extensive and expensive overhaul of car I was tailgated by a Jeep. I was into the ride for maybe 5 minutes. The last time I drove this car was 2 years ago and I don't recall having been followed that closely. I wonder if some of this aggression is due to the present state of our economy. The guy that dreams of having a Corvette sees his vision slipping away due to his frustration with his financial status.

Been there had that done to me, especially when i am planning on making a turn, i have the green light, and usually a pick up truck will go through the redlight as to me almost hitting them, yea there are a lot of A-Holes out their

It has happened to me at work. Take the Corvette to work and a co-worker will see me in the parking lot and make a crude remark and every time I see them after that, they seem mad at me.

I get the tailgating thing a lot. To be honest though I think I'm a little hypersensitive to it because I drive a big ass truck most of the time. In the vette I'm sitting darn near on the rear bumper so it makes those other cars look way close.

Other than that, I never get anyone acting rude. I only get the guys that want to race now and I took care of that problem when I sold the '74 and bought the Z06. :thumbsup:

I think it goes with the territory with Vette ownership. I drive a C5 convertible and it feels like everbody is tailgating me. I think it's mostly perception on my part as there is nothing but GM fiberglass between my head and the grill of the Ford F150behind me. :surprised

I do agree though that people tend to drive more aggressively around me when I'm driving the Vette. I was out driving this past weekend on a four lane road when a guy pulled out into the right lane in front of me. No big deal, I simply moved into the left lane to pass him. As soon as I did, he floored his car to make sure I could not get ahead of him (at least legally)

However on the flip side as Patrick and others mentioned, I've had very nice people approach me when I'm filling up for gas or just cruising the neighborhood complimenting me on the car.

The funniest reaction I enjoy is how whenever I am out washing the car on the driveway, drivers always rev their engines when passing by. Not sure what that is all about. Maybe just a knee-jerk auto response. :laughing:

I take my C2 to the show and shines. Usually at gas stations everyone is real nice like others have mentioned. I have on more than one occasion had someone say "must be nice" as they walk by WTF. One time a little boy said I like this one, his Mutha pulled him away saying, No you don't that is a gas hog polluting dinosaur. LOL:rolling:
