My take
I had my C3 out of service for a couple years. On the occasion of my first shakedown ride after an extensive and expensive overhaul of car I was tailgated by a Jeep. I was into the ride for maybe 5 minutes. The last time I drove this car was 2 years ago and I don't recall having been followed that closely. I wonder if some of this aggression is due to the present state of our economy. The guy that dreams of having a Corvette sees his vision slipping away due to his frustration with his financial status.
