i didn't know there was a reliable way to tell from the outsideGet the casting number at the rear of the drivers block and go HERE Most of the numbers state 2 or 4 so you may not know until you pull the pan.
I went to the parts house for a part for the 79 and he looked at the numbers there and said I had a 4 bolt main because the number 01 in the series defines it as such.
.....the corvette Black Book for 72 shows this:SO SOME 350'S CAME FROM THE FACTORY WITH A 2 BOLT. ? thanks for the responses.
The 81 has a 2 bolt main. If you have the motor out, why not just look and know?SO SOME 350'S CAME FROM THE FACTORY WITH A 2 BOLT. ? thanks for the responses.
Aparantly. So can the same part number for a block be BOTH 4-bolt or 2-bolt???
Okay...that's what I though for big block...just wasn't sure about the mouse motor.from the chevymania site the "010" block everyone is after, #3970010 can be both a 2 bolt and a 4 bolt, car or truck from 1969-1979
