I don't Even know where to being.. This has been the longest day In the world..

it just popped in my Head to Jump on here Since you guys are the best help ever when it comes to Vettes. I have learned pretty much Everything i know about Them from this site.

So I'm Going to ask for some help in what is becoming a nightmare...

I'm going to try and keep this post from being 50 hours long.. ha

So here is the Compacted version of the story

I bought my second C5 corvette about a year and a half ago from a dealership here in Phoenix Arizona.

a 2001 conv fully loaded with 29k on it.

Very Clean and awesome. even With the Way things are now a days I pulled Ends to make them meet and brought her home the same day.

Then ... The Bad luck Started ... Almost instantly..

First Issues with The dealers pulling sneaky ones on the paper Work and even at one point selling us Warranty for "dent" protection....after which I asked how that would work on a fiber glass car... we were met with a shoulder Shrug and a chuckle..(this was Removed at that point from our contract)

a Day later i notice that There is damage to the front of the Car.. nothing too Wild .. just the typical sports Car bottom out... The air dam had some damage and the supporting bars were dented a little bit and Scratched...

again you could tell it was bottomed out at some point..

I call the dealer and inform them...

fast forward.... After fighting with them to Convince them this damage was not done by me and was this way when I bought the car ...

They agreed To Fix the Vibration noise that would happen when the AC was on and the Car was put into reverse...

After having the car for about a week in the shop..(after about 2 weeks of owning it... 1 week That I didn't even drive it cause I was out of town For work)

I am told It needed new motor mounts ... and a fuel pump as well as a radiator that was damaged from the impacted I reported the day after I saw it ..

fast forward about 2 months from then.. and The car now vibrates when the AC is on and my foot is on the brake at red lights... and when going from park into reverse with AC on and randomly when its off too ... the car would vibrate loudly and make a rattle sound ... Very loud..

I was Told that it had to do with the AC lines being too close to the Frame of the Car....

and once again.... the car ends up in the shop for another week while i am given a rental focus.. after they realigned the "ac lines" The noise was gone for a total of max 5 days ...

Back to the Dealer ship once again >>>

after another two days for them to "see whats going on here"
i am told that its not the AC lines but instead it is the aftermarket exhaust and "these things happen all the time With Aftermarket systems"

a System they Sold To me on the car... I have never added single part to the car since purchase..

They then "fix" the exhaust system and the noise is gone for a grand total of ..... wait for it ... wait for it ..

3 days.. and Im back at the dealership once again ...

This time They Tell me its the exhaust and it would need to be reset up .. and that could take over 7 hours to get perfect... and The men working on the car would want to be paid ... and thats not covered ..

fast forward... after fighting For a day or so and talking to everyone but jesus himself.... They agree to "reset up" the exhaust"

once again all this covered by the extra 3k they got me for on a "silver" tier warranty...

fast forward again.. this time almost 5 months... (mind you I do not drive this car often at all... in the almost 2 years that i have had this car i have put barely 15k miles on it)

The noise is back.. worse then ever ... The car now shakes when your foot is on the brake at red lights with the AC on ALL THE TIME. no longer "random"

when putting the car in reverse... AC on or off.... it shakes like crazy and vibrates worse then ever .. and is no longer just something that happens ... at random...

So the Car is back at the dealer ... at which Point .. I find out that all the shady .. lying ... people that worked at the dealership When I bought my car .. no longer work there.... Some fired.....some who knows... but no one from the day I bought my car works there anymore...

Well... once again same thing .. This time .. I'm told its the Ac compressor... and that this "might not be covered"... at which point i tell them I could care less.. This is damage and issue that I bought the car with.. since the First day we have been "trying" and failing to attempt to fix this issue ...

They keep the Car for about 4 days .... After the first two days ... I get a call saying the its NOT the AC compressor like they thought... Though that Could be it "down the Road"

Once again they tell me its the After market exhaust system and that There is not much I can Do besides buy a new AFTER MARKET system... Or Swap this one out and see if they Dealership will buy me a stock system... WTF ?! (pardon my french fellaz I'm upset ha)

at which point i told them that if they COuld get the exhaust set up Maybe they Could weld it ?? .. I know NOTHING about cars and don't claim to...im a IT software DEV and I'm desperate at this point that I'm trying to track down a plan to beating this madness at this point...

he tells me That his "manager" has given him the ok to have his "exhaust" Specialist fix the issue and once again ... re align The System... (its a catback route 66)

after about 3 hours i get a call back saying "I THINK we made it BETTER"...I couldn't believe what I was hearing... I THINK ?!!?!we made it BETER?!?

not Fixed ... like i was told it would be ... but "better"...

so off I go.. once again .. leaving work Early .. Like i have about 10 times already Through out the duration of this Story i am telling here ...
(and I'm sure boring you all to death with my crap writing Skills and run on rants I'm trying to call timelines lol)

Get to the dealer... Start the car... put it in reverse... BAM !! same noise.. same issue .. if not now its Worse...

So .. Im told To Leave the car again for a few days So they can Get down to the bottom of this issue...

few days later .. rinse and repeat.... I pick up the car... Noise seems Gone ... I have no choice but to hope its Fixed while i embark on a 5 hour Car Ride For A work related media Even in California...

Guess what ?!!?!?!?!?!? the noise is back .. but this time ... its brought a A friend i like to call "Holy Sh*t Maybe we should get out while its doing this Noise..." hah

so no way I was Driving the car like this anywhere... Call them back .. drop it off... Leave for work .. come back on monday .... And now The Fun starts..

They claim there is Nothing more they can do for this issue.. They Cant seem To Find or understand why this noise is happening or Coming back each time they Fix it ..

The only thing that can be done is replace the system with a stock one... or another after market one that is "made better suited for the car and fits better to the Stock mounting"

after complaining .. and once again talking to everyone minus pee wee herman....

They ONCE AGAIN ... Decide they will give it another attempted ... This time .. They will bring it to "an Exhaust shop thats local here in phx that are the pros at after market installs"

and that this would get it Right.

well.... this was on monday.... after days of "wait for my boss to come back from vacation to ok your repairs on your vette" and "yeah they still have not gotten a chance to get to it since they are super busy and trying to get to it" and another classic "They are still looking at it right now and trying to decide what we can do to fix this ..."

I wake up this morning thinking today would be a great day to pick up the vette... Grab my new iPhone and hit the Road on my day off and enjoy the finer moments in life..

I get a call from a service manager telling me .... that they would be taking the car to an exhaust shop to have the custom bend the pipes to the cars shape and this would for sure fix the on going issues...

i think to myself.. the gods have Shined on me!!

My car is saved ... 32k Dollars are not down the drain on a lemon....

then he says in a tone of voice that sounds like bad news from a miles away..

but we had a problem... There Was an accident with your car and someone backed into it in The lot....

I was almost heart broken.. as dump as that sounds... I know its just a car. .but to me guys I won't lie... its a child hood Dream come true.. I worked hard for that car... Took me 15 years to finally be able to buy one like that... and here it is ... junk and broken ..

well I get to the dealer and This is what I saw .

they claim another worked backed a SUV into it .. I filmed and pictured Everything on the car to show the damage... The two managers almost seemed to give two Craps about the whole thing.

the car was hit in the back hard enough that it Sent the Front end onto the curb in front of it...

After me yelling at them about there being no way it was just as simple as "backed into it" they admitted that the person was careless and must have "halled ass" into it....

Im not a pro at this .. but does that look like a simple .. backed into ... ?

Now here is the thing .. They want to Pay for all the damage....

But where do I stand in this ?? do i have any rights here?

What happens when I try to sell the car ? is the value now Gone cause of this ?

they said that I could contact my lawyer.. but The most I will get is The car repaired after wasting my time in court for god knows how long... This just doesn't seem Right...

I feel that I should be compensated here in Some kind of way .. the countless amount of hours That i have lost from work and my personal Time. All the times I Had to Find Rides and inconvence my life and others to Get to the Shop

who's to say that I now Will not have a whole new set of issues and noises and problems??

I have been asking for advice left and right from friends to strangers to here.. and I'm hoping this whole thing isn't asking too much. But I just need advice on what i can do here..

They keep saying that if i call my lawyers and the insurance is contacted that it would then Show on the Record of the car that it was crashed into. But if i let them repair everything that it won't.. I'm soooooo confused that its no longer funny anymore ...

They provided me with a rental... 2011 maximum...

They Even dropped it off at my house... Filled it up .. told me i could bring it back on E if i wanted to ...

I have until monday to let them know what I want to do ..

I just have this feeling in my gut like something is not write ... They were kissing My ass big time when I was pissed off .. then when I started to calm down a little (was at the dealer today for about 4 hours total) its almost like They kicked back more like .. yeah We got this one ...

They Even tried to play me like a little kid and offer to "install corvette Letters on the back number in chrome" like i give a rats ass about that Crap ? ?!?

THey said its all bolt on panels... And Would be like new.. and would offer a life time warranty on the work They Do.... and that the exhaust job would be taken Care of after This issue is first handled ..

I'm really sorry to cause anyone headaches with This .. But I'm very stressed out over work and money issues to being with ... just lost my house... and now I'm hit with this ... .

i just need some good advice that I know i can trust and go with.

Thank you guys again in advance

WOW!Sounds like it might be time to get another Vette. Take the book value when you bought it plus or minus what you paid for it and add or subtract that from the current book value and tell them that is what credit you want toward another one

These are random figure and do not reflect actual value. They are just an example:laughing:

book value 33,000 minus what you paid 32,000 leaves 1,000

current book value 26,000 less the difference 1,000 leave 25,000 credit toward another one

I hope you can get something worked out to your satisfaction

The state that you live in can have a huge impact in what rights you have at this point as state laws can differ.

I'm not sure if they checked that or not. I'm so lost at what to do. I can't really afford to spend a boat load of money on a lawyer only in the end to be at the same place.

Am I crazy to think I should be compensated for my troubles?

I'm not the kinda person that looks for a freebie but I truly feel that they should make up for this.

Also if I have them fix it, will that kill the value of the car now ? Or is it as they claim just a simple repair ?

Again sorry for being so clueless.

I'm so sorry to hear about the bad luck you have been having with this car. If I were you I would make an appt with a lawyer as most will consult with you initially for free and most likely you will get the advise you need right then and there. This is not the kind of case that an attorney will take on and charge a fee only if they win, so paying for representation doesnt pay. To be honest you really have no case if the dealer is willing to pay and guarantee the repairs and correct the vibration issue as well. As far as the value dropping on the car, most will tell you that as long as the repairs are done correctly to factory specs the value will be fine, it seems from what you said the damage is only to the body panels and not the frame or chassis, so it should be fine. I'm not defending the dealer in any way here, but they did take resposibility to repair the damage and correct the vibration and loaned you some wheels, so they are making an effort to make things right. Let them do the repairs and make it clear to them that all work is to be done to factory specs and get it all in writing along with the guarantee, and hold onto the loaner till all the work is done to your satisfaction. At this point thats all you can do. So with a little luck and some more wasted time you should come out of this alright, this too shall pass. Please let us know how this turns out and all the best to you bro!

I would get a lawyer and give him a copy of what you just wrote about on this forum if the car dealership doesn't give you a full refund seeing how the vette that they sold you appears to be a lemon because of the reoccuring noise/vibration problem
Also, according to the dealership...They admitted causing the body damage while it was on their lot.

You should and very well desire a full refund.
Question:

Is the dealership a GM dealer?

If he had bought this car new from the dealer and had this happen shortly after purchasing then I would agree, however this car was bought used from them more than two years ago, I think it's safe to say that you would be hard pressed to find a Judge that would award that.

:agree:

You have to ask yourself on a used car. When does the reponsibility end for the dealer and starts with the new owner?

All I can say is what I might do. Fortunately, I have had relatively good relationships with my local Dealership, but that always comes down to who is running things at the moment.

As far as the body damage, that all "appears" to be cosmetic. If I had the replacement panels, I could repair all that myself in a couple days, but their body shop should be able get all that fixed in 10 days or so. Also, being a black car, the repaint should be fairly easy to match. Actually if you had to get hit somewhere, that was about as good a spot as you could hope for.

If they are willing/able to repair it, you probably cannot expect anything more, although it would be nice if they would al least pay for a rental car while you are inconvenienced.

As far as value of the car dropping, I would not be too concerned about that, 2001's have probably just about hit bottom anyway. I have always been able to sell all my past Corvettes (except one) for several thousand dollars above book. You would however get hammered if you traded it in as they will come up with every reason to devalue it.

As far as the vibration that most likely is something very simple, but if they are not Corvette Specialists, they may be lost. I had a similar rattle that made the car sound like it was coming apart at red lights - especially with the AC on - felt like the engine was going to die - turned out to just be a dirty Throttle Butterfly in my case and the Dealership never found it. Took me a can of Throttle-Body cleaner and a rag and no problems now for 3 years. That is especially worth checking if you have an "oiled" air filter as that oil eventually will find it way to the MAF and Throttle Body. Even if that is not your problem, it is probably something very simple to fix or it would have made its source obvious by now.

Best thing is to cuss life, blame Obama and oversized vehicles, and if you have time park in front of Wall Street for a few days with a sign, then get back on the road!

Best of luck!

I'm going to talk to them on monday... The curse of the Dealer gets better...

The rental car a 2011 maximum has been peeing oil all over my drive way since it was dropped off to me yesterday lol

Called them today and Told them about it. I was told to bring the Car in on Monday and see what we can do

and the dealer is a GM dealer. here in phoenix... a well known one at that.... midway chevy...

I'm really not the type of person that looks for things like this to happen so i can get freebies or anything of that nature... but I just want my 32k that I paid to be Something i can enjoy and not something that has been nothing but heart ache and loss since the First day.

The car hasn't even hit two years yet that i bought it.. I understand its used... but This whole thing has Drained me and my family as we are going through hard times.

I'm going to take all your advices and have them repair it .. My fear is to waste thousands of dollars in court only to end up at the same place..

I will keep everyone updated and Wish I could personally shake all your hands and thank you for this input which has been more help then anything.

You guys are really a great group of people.

thank you again and god bless

I totally feel your pain, I really do. Nothing is worse than having your Corvette hit except maybe, having it happen while not even in your possesion. Dealing with dealers can be a real pain but the whole lawyer thing will end up being more headaches down the road. If it were me I would let them do the repairs but make sure it looked 100% perfect before I accepted it back. Since it's a GM body shop you would think they could get the paint right. As for the noise, it's probably something simple. You could always take it to your own choice of mechanic just to see what they suggest, then either have the dealer repair it or pay for the repairs. If it's not too much the dealer may agree to it just to be done with it. NEVER HURTS TO GET ANOTHER OPINION!;)

I know it sucks now, but eventually this too shall pass and you will be enjoying your Corvette once again! Keep us posted!

Even after having the car for two years and still issues with the exhaust they agreed to fix it again. I would really question myself on why they are being so nice all of the sudden. I thinkl someone was joy riding your car and was involved in a wreck. Now they are kissing your ace. I think you should get your money and move to a new one. When I mess up a vehicle it is hard for me to baby it again nowing it was damaged. I would get out if I could.

WOW man, that has to be the worst dealer on record. I'd say lawyer up. After two years of being in and out of the shop they havent been able to diagnose any of you issues and fix them correctly. Get a full copy of the "repair" history showing the ineptatude of the dealer, also see if they have security camera's that caught the incident. Also where is the vehilce that hit you? If it exist shouldnt that customer have been notified as well?

The main reason they dont want you to make a fuss with insurance is that their insurance with **** a brick when they found out they damaged a 'vette. They also shouldnt be pressuring you into doing anything.

Hope things get better for you man

Get the car fixed then trade it in for a 2004 1 owner vert. No way I would want that car after all the problems. Just wash your hands and get a better one, a 2004.

just my .02
