I think I remember that in Tennessee you can't be prosecuted if you 'accidentaly' hit a protester that is in the roadway

Remember when the Flag burning thing was going on several years ago? The towns around here all got together (colluded) and actually made some progress.

The law pretty much said that anyone hitting/abusing a protestor burning a flag would be fined $1.00 payable to the officer on the scene. Protestors didn't burn any flags. The cop would have got rich. The lines would have reached around the block.

Yes, assault is illegal.
Yes, you will be fined
No, it doesn't go on your record.
Just take a punch and give the officer a dollar.

I gave an officer $100 to get out of a speeding ticket.....is that the same thing?

That's cheap. It should be the law and it should be OK to pay the cop. But we'd need some rules. $2.00 for every MPH above the posted limit. 100 in a 70 would be 60 dollars. I'd pay that. So far the old Escort 9500ix has paid for itself many times over.

I got my V1 updated but nothing helps against "instant on".

The V1, like your Escort has paid for itself many many times over. Albeit even with the updates it has become a pretty chatty squawk box with all the new vehicle safety devices.

IIRC most states have passed laws that if they block roadways and intersections you can drive through them, but you can't hit them at high speeds. Tennessee does have that law.
