I dont see them getting rid of the low priced corvette, I can see the base car making 450-475BHP and the Z06 model having 550-575BHP.

From motor trend...Bet on the 505-horsepower Z06 becoming the standard 2010 C7 Corvette. So are we looking at a 70 grand base price?
Whether or not they end up using the LS7 (or another 500 hp engine) in the base C7, I don't see the price of the base model going up significantly. They've figured out how to offer higher-end cars while maintaining the mass-market appeal and pricing within the range; they're not going to change that approach significantly.

This is the same MT that says the new Shelby GT 500KR (540HP) is going to scare the Z06, nevermind that the base GT500 (500 HP) has a tough time scaring a base C6.

There's a lot more to a Z06's price than just the 7L engine.

Just call them MoronTrend and forget about it!

Also this is the same Motor Trend that wrote a very "scientific" article concluding that a MazdaSpeed3 handles better than a C6 Z06...

Not to mention that I took down a Z06 in my wifes Mazda CX-7 on a road course. Boy, Mazda sure is making great cars these days

I saw that article, pissed me right off. The standards if you looked at them closely were "how can we have another article to praise porsches" And they did so quite well. The Z06 got 9th out of 10 cars I believe.

Stay classy MT.

I don't see this happening. Even alot of the people who bought C6 Z's couldn't handle them so the average Vette owner is not going to want something that borders on exotic. They just want a sport car with a lot of HP but not too much.

Quite frankly, I see the 2010 Corvette as being some type of hybrid engine car with 400+HP. They will probably also have a gas engine in the Z06 version for more $$ However I hope they keep in mind that the Corvette is supposed to be "The Working Man's Sportscar".

I heard (from as credible a source as I've ever known) way back in 2004 that the C7 would be a mid-rear design.......

Look how right I was....

Motortrend blows. Those guys are more about selling magazines than they are about cars, or journalistic integrity for that matter....

Actually, the Corvette is NOT "The Working Man's Sportscar", that would be the Camaro, Mustangs, Firebirds, etc.

The Corvette is "America's Sports car".

Being an affordable performer has been great for us, but hasn't really helped the Corvette with respect amongst the "other sports cars" (Vipers, Porsches, Lamborghinis, Ferraris, Lotus, etc.)

Corvettes have finally gotten a great interior, maybe a price hike, and lower numbers will help the Corvette get the respect it deserves.

(BTW, the words "journalistic" and "integrity" are no longer practiced and Motor Trend are idiots)

There is currently proposed legislation in Washington to make a mandatory regulation for all auto-makers (selling vehicles in America) to produce cars with a minimum of 35mpg.

That being said, look for the 'horsepower war' between Chevy, Dodge, and Ford to calm down... much like it did in the late 1970's.

Everything is cyclical, right now, all the auto manufacturers are about Big motors, Big Horsepower, and Big Torque. It will soon come to a point where there is such a disgusting amount of horsepower that cars will be undrivable. The technology exists to mass-produce 1,000+ HP engins (the Planes we fly in flight training are powered by 1,300 HP rolls royce 12 cylinders), but its just not realistic (physics wise) to put that into a car.

The horsepower war will hit a plateau since the average person can barely handle 400HP on the road and the automotive focus will shift elsewhere.

My prediction - look for a base of 450 - 485 horsepower in the C7, but with much improved gas mileage, reliability, and longevity

:agree:

And it will be a happy day when we've got power, comfort and reliability. Longevity would be good too, but I'm dubious, since cars have seem to become more disposable every year.

My old 68 still runs (sold to a family member, so I get to visit). And my 85 has close to 180k on it and still runs, but my 94 is a miserable pile.
