I want to find an affordable sound deadening material for the DC Z. I'm not worried about insulation or heat shielding. Just sound deadening.

I don't want to buy from some place on e-bay. I don't mind a dynomat-like material, and I also don't mind a "roll on" rhino-liner type material also as non-slip might be nice.

I know I can pay big-bucks for something, but prefer to do something interesting.

Prefer non-toxic, no fumes.

Anyone? :D

Depending on what your trying to deaden you might check this out. It is supposed to be good for taking out road noise, exhaust drone, etc.

If your talking about deadening vibrations from something like a sound system (what dynamat would be used for) then you could check out things like Raamat.. it is about half the price of dynamat.

In hindsight, I'd go with second skin audio. Their Damplifier is basicly the same as dynamat extreme but at a much better price.

here's my source for comparison:

I also used second skin's "overkill pro" acoustic absorbsion foam. I put this on top of the deadener on the doors, cargo area and especially the wall behind the seats. The foam is designed to absorb outside noise while the butyl mats are designed to absorb panel vibration.

The results were dramatic. I used to have a horrible drone from my borla stingers but now they're hardly noticable. In addition, i'm running a 1200W system. On a SPL test, i reached 140dB on the inside and was still able to carry on a normal volume conversation just outside the car (windows/doors closed etc)

The installation used mostly dynamat (because i bought before i researched) You can use overkill pro on large panels prone to severe vibration, but the regular damplifier works well for most areas.

here are some pics of the install:

I have been thinking about doing the same thing, but my problem is Weight

Radioflyer97 -- How much weight do you think you added to your car with all that dynamat?

based on the measured product weight specs and the amount i have left over, I'd say I added about 50lbs (this includes the doors as well) The big killer for me was the sub and amp rack totalling about 75 lbs. The good news to this is most of the added weight is in the back which gives me better traction.

oh and the kit from exotic vette is for thermal insulation. It does have a scant amount of dampening qualities but overall isn't designed for that purpose.

I bought a kit for my 1981 for the heat inside. It ran about $120.00 and when I had it in, I found out the AC was really running all the time. The noise inside was down some also. What I am getting at finnaly is the stuff I put inside to do this, I could have bought it at any Menards, Lowel's or big hardware out let store for a lot cheeper. This might cut down the noise enough. Its about 1/4" and comes 3ft wide and as long as you want it with a foil backing. (Foil side up) Can't hurt to take a look while your running around Chi town! Might save you a few bucks and solve your problelm!

The weight problem can be overcome by adding HP ... we added about 68lbs of sound deading to my dad's C6 Vert ... it helped a ton ... and 68lbs is not much ... it should not have any noticible effect on performace ... except in your mind ...

I would do a Simpson helmet with the Max sound elimination option and built in headphones/mic. Only way to do in car ****, IMO.
