Intake Swap...again - Early C4

Okay - I explored this for a little while earlier this year when an Accel Gen VII DFI system fell in my lap - however, the complications involved in swapping over a perfectly good working 1986 TPI to that wasn 't worth it for the other expense.

So...been thinking though. Why can't I find a low rise four bbl style EFI intake - install it on the 86 Vette with a quality elbow allowing me to put the throttle body in nearly the same stock position...then hook it all up? I know the EGR would be off-line, but why won't this work..

AND - obtain the higher RPM that it lacks so badly????

Yes, you can slap a TPIS miniram on...or do a big mouth conversion, but both are very expensive.

Why spend $1,500 plus dollars on a $4,000 car?

I'm wondering if this could be done with some elbow grease and about $500.

The stealthram is too high and requires machine work, as well as the Edelbrock intake.

Why won't this work????

Edelbrock makes a variety of elbows with different lengths and heights. The lowest I saw was 3.62in and 9in. long. The one in the beginning post is 4.25in high. All seem to only take an LS style throttle body. I did find a company that made elbows for an LT1 style throttle body but they were $315. It seems an Edelbrock elbow and LS1 throttle body from a salvage yard may be the inexpensive way to go. FAST also has a single plane EFI manifold for $354.
I've always liked the look of this guldstrand/traco engine.

Any thoughts on heads/cam to match up to the intake?

No different than any other top end motor.

Claimed benefits of SP intake are more even air distribution over log style intakes ( MR, etc ) that run rich on some runners / lean on others at big revs

Some thoughts on elbow design (long read )

Hello beautiful!

That is EXACTLY what I'm talking about.

I wonder just how sharp the pencil could get on scraping that kind of deal together from used and hand made parts.....

Yup, just curious if 69MyWay had been considering any specific parts since he's trying to keep it on a DIY budget. Figured there'd be some good grabs on used or older style heads that could be picked up for a good deal. Just curious if he'd been looking around since he'll definitely need to do it for a top end build.

Yea the ones under the hood of your car...well not under the hood now but you know what I mean.

Nope, no plans for head/cam - none at all. That just brings a whole world of other headaches that are not worth the time and trouble for a car my wife is using.

The C4 is a fine machine, but due to the lack up higher RPM thrill...is feels well past its prime.

With the values of the cars in the tank - it is hard to justify spending any real coin on them as well unless it is just a labor of love. So, this is all about getting that upper RPM thrill (especially because this is a stick shift car) without killing the bank or making the car problematic with tuning/cam/head...vacuum...idle...etc.etc. issues that ALWAYS follow. Been there done that many times.

My last C4 we did for the magazine with the crate LS2 was PERFECT - however, if I were to duplicate that car today - just the MOTOR would cost more than the car - and that won't suit where I want to go with this.
