This came up on another C5 forum asking has a top ever come off a Vette at the track! The consenses was that a properly secured top could not come off, but the glass top is on glued to the frame on a C4!

I'm guessing that the bolts that hold the front brackets came loose. I had it happen on my 87 a while ago, the torx bolts on the inside of the car would snug up but the top would still rattle. The weather finally got warm enough that I took off the top and found the loose bracket bolts.

I posted it the original thread and the guy said it was properly secured and it is uranthaned to the frame and this is what gave way.

He retrieved his top which had a few scratches and reurathaned it to the frame and put it back on!
