I've been following a thread in the C3 topics started by biltogo about a battery and it reminded me of the C5 battery saga. The ones that have had a C5 for a while probably know about this but the rest of the newer C5 owners, it will be worth your while to read this.

One of the flaws of the C5 is that the battery is directly above the computer. As a battery gets older it has a tendency to leak. If it does leak into the computer, you are looking at an expensive replacement. While this might never happen. it is possible. A solution to the in the problem is a non spillable aborsbant glass mat battery similar to the Optima. NAPA sells one also, along with several other manufacturers. These are non-leakers and worth the money. About $120-130 at places like Pep Boys

I think my battery leaking was the source of the fire that destroyed my black LT4 car. There are lots of wires and fuses under/near the batter on the C4 - and the battery was original.

I check my GS battery monthly!
