My 1997 LT1 Optispark Distributors has corrosion problems on the bottom of the Distributor. The repair/replacement is very expensive. I would appreciate hearing from anyone with ideas for buying other than GM parts or what to do. The top of the distributor was replaced last year. Wire leading to the computer is also corroded.

The early oti units (92/93) were prone to water getting into them. The later units are all but immune to this; as such, can you determine what the environment was that caused the problem?
Right now there is only one option (I think) and it is much more costly than an optispark replacement.
While you are at it put on magnecore ignition wires . .
