I am of the belief that if the engine oil makers thought they could cash in on the snake oil stuff without doing harm to their product and reputation, they would have started doing it a long time ago. The oil additive market is extremely lucrative (sales in the billions per year), i think Mobile 1 and Valvoline and all the others would have jumped on that market a LONG time ago if they thought is was worth it and they haven't.

Engine oils are a finely balanced mix of chemicals and the manufacture spends god knows how much money every year to get it right. Makes me cringe when people dump stuff into the oil.

I think the better question is, "why do you think you need it?"

This is a good question, hopefully not because you were at autozone and saw there little spin the wheel demo with the plastic gears, all it really does is make the oil THICKER, would make no difference than switching from 5w/30 to 10w/30 but also remember thicker oils rob performance.

a good quality oil and regular changes and checks is all you ever need.

Remember different additives can cause chemical reactions and might cause SLUDGE in your engine.

Thanks!

Thanks everybody!

I think I will just leave it alone. One other thing if you all dont mind. I plan on installing either 18x9.5 front and 19x11 rear motorsport wheels with 275/35/18 and 305/30/19 tires, OR 19x9.5 and 20x11 motorsport wheels with 275/30/19 and 305/25/20 tires.

Do any of you have one of these set ups? If you do I would love some pics to see your car and how it looks. This is the first Vette I have owned (Finally!) and I am still learning this machine.

It is an all stock base Black 1999 C5 w/ 41k.

Thank You for the help and advice in advance!
