Manual R&P steering ??

Flaming River offers a manual rack for our C3s.... anybody with first hand experience how hard it is to turn the wheel ?? I've owned cars without power steering and never had a problem turning the steering wheel, however, that was with 195 front tires and a light 4cyl engine....

Pretty light, installed it in a 69 with a 502 ram jet and I can move the car around pushing it and steering with 1 hand through the window opening

I have 1 complaint and that is there seems to be about 3 degrees of play in the rack itself, I gotta complain at flaming river about that and see what they have to say. The adjuster is staked in place so I didn't bother messing with it and certainly don't want to over tighten it and put too much strain on the pinion bearing
Marck,
I knew you were installing this manual rack, I was waiting to hear your feedback but with all the bs "at the other place" you didn't continue your install thread....

Anyways.... that's exactly what I needed to hear - minus the 3 degrees play of course... hopefully they get that fixed....

Do you think that U-joint fits next to the Hooker headers without too much trouble ?? I hope to gain a little clearance there, the grease in my steering box gets boiled all the time....
I'll take some pics, it should fit, there's more room than w a box.

I DID confirm that it doesn't fit with a 502 ramjet... NICE!!! :( Now it's eitehr massaging the oil pan or the cradle again, I'm thinking oilpan this time as the cradle has been powdercoated since I've modified it. This stuff is never easy, just when you think it's going smooth something just doesn't fit. I wonder if they tested it w/ a BBC. Maybe the ramjet has a slightly deeper oil pan than the vette...maybe a vette pan has a little more clearance for the stock power steering ram. Will have to investigate.

Stock ramjet pan is 7qt truck pan...
Does the vette one have more clearance right in front of the sump?
