...what is not surprising is that I was stopped next to one
of those trucks on Friday (the back door had this expensive
latch that you would find on most wooden gates) and there
was about a 3/4" gap and the door started to flap back and
forth, maybe I should follow one next time.....

(Oct. 6) -- The commute to work turned into a trip to the
bank for some residents of Indianapolis after money fell
from an armored car.

Cash was blowing in the wind around 7:30 a.m. at the corner
of Washington and Meridian streets after bundles of money
tumbled from the back of a Garda Cash Logistics vehicle.

"People were stopping their cars, picking up loads of cash and
driving away," witness Brieanna Patterson told The
Indianapolis Star. "People ran into the street and grabbed
armloads, paying no attention to traffic. I saw two women
walk by here real fast holding as much loose cash as they
could in their arms against their chest. They looked like they
were all $20s."

According to an Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department
case report obtained by AOL News, when officers arrived on
the scene they saw "two good citizens that helped secure
the money."

"The money was bundled in plastic wrap," the report states.
"One of the three bundles was damaged, and an unknown
amount of currency was missing. The citizens said that they
saw bills blowing in the breeze when a car hit one of the
bundles of money."

That's when passers-by began "running in the street chasing
the cash," according to police. But good Samaritans "gathered
as much of the money as they could and kept the crowd
away."

The driver and crew aboard the armored car didn't
immediately notice that the money had fallen out, and the
company that owns the truck is still trying to determine its
losses.

"We are investigating to see exactly what did occur, so we
can't make any comment as to what happened," said Garda
Cash Logistics spokesman Joe Gavaghan.

Gavaghan told AOL News that until an investigation is
complete, the company cannot comment on how much
money was inside the vehicle when the incident occurred,
how much cash fell out or how many dollars were recovered.

Though it's unclear what caused the cash to fall from the
truck, an industry source told AOL News that likely culprits
are mechanical failure or human error.

"Probably the mechanisms on the door of the truck
malfunctioned, or someone failed to secure the locks
properly," the source said.

Though Gavaghan declined to comment on the specifics of
the incident, he was quick to offer his gratitude to the
Indianapolis residents who guarded the money instead of
trying to take it and run.

"We would like to thank those citizens and the police
department for the quick response and their assistance in
securing the funds until we returned to the scene," said
Gavaghan -- whose company earlier this year saw $100,000
fall from an armored car in Columbus, Ohio.

Police say the Indiana incident was over just 15 minutes after
it started -- too soon for some Indianapolis residents.

Hmmm, from the replies, I guess we can deduce that Corvette ownership and Good Samaritan are mutually exclusive. :spanked:

When I was really little we (all the neighborhood kids) found a wallet with over $600 down our street. We ended up looking for and finding it's owner, so I have done the right thing before.;) Course that was a long...long time ago.
