Who can burn me a copy of the NAV upgrade?

I need to get a hold of a a copy too. Yeah, I know it's illegal, blah, blah, blah... but after paying for the damn $50K+ car, I can't feel bad about wanting the NAV update disc gratis.
I have V3.0 in the form of a BitTorrent. I haven't tried to burn it on DVD yet, so I don't know if it works. I'll git it a try in a day or two. If it works I'll be glad to send copies.
Thanks a million Lemans

Thanks Lemans for the offer I hope you can burn it.
for the people who dont know already...what exactly does the update do for the nav? thanks in advance

The newer versions update and add streets and POI's. The old versions is like having an old map book, some of the newer streets aren't shown yet.
cool thanks...but what exactly makes it illegal? can you play dvd's while driving or something?

The new versions of the map disk are copyright material. Much like burning a music CD.

If you have a 06 or 07 you get 2 free upgrades.

If you don't have an 06 or 07 you need to purchase the disks from GM. I believe the disk is approx 200 bucks.

Hopefully my "backup" download will work. I'm going to pick up some blank disks tomorrow.
hahaaha...ohh that kind of illegal....well thanks again for the info...guess i will have to get an aftermarket one if my girl wants to watch dvd's on the road
If you have an 06 model, how do you acquire your updated disk? I've had my car for 13.5 months and I thought GM just mailed it to my home....but I haven't seen it yet.

You have to call 1-877-NAV-DISC (1-877-628-3472) and give your VIN and request an updated disk.

You can also make the request online www.gmnavdisc.com

I'm not sure if it needs to be doe every year, or if you can make the request every other year etc. If you find out please let me know. I just got my 06 in August and haven't updated the disk yet. Mine came with version 2.0
I hear they no longer use version numbers, and only part numbers. Let us know how you make out.
Good news. I picked blank DVD's today, and burnt my Bit Torrent download to a disk. I popped it into the Nav and everything works fine. This is version 3.0

However I don't notice any difference from the version 2.0. That doesn't mean there isn't any, just none that I could see.
06LemansC6: I didn't read your post till after I visited with GM today. As suggested in another post, I gave them my VIN and other ID type info and just like that they will be mailing me the disc in about a week. Conversation took all of 4 minutes; imagine that in this day and age. Just speculating (I didn't ask), I think they will wait till I ask for the second disc....but we'll find out in time.
Nav Disc

06LemansC6: I was wondering if there is a difference between the 05 nav and the 06 and up nav systems. We 05rs seem to have been left out of the updates. Will your copied disc work for the 05 and if so would you be so kind as to provide a copy. Cost (if any)?

I just went to the Nav web site to order my free Nav disc.
They needed VIN # and Control #. What is Control # ?
Anybody know. I like 06LemansC6 have an 06 and havn't
updated my Disc yet also. I was planning on doing it
every couple years. It looks like on Nav web site once you
sign up you get one every year until you get your two free.
But I still don't know what Control # they talking about.

I think they are suppose to send you a post card on your annual anniversary. I am guessing the control # is on that post card. I'm sure you will be all set if you just call the phone number I posted and give them your VIN.

PM me your address.

Of course you know I am providing this copy as a backup for an original purchased copy. Otherwise that would be illegal. ;)

As far as I know the disk should work just fine on the 05 models. All I know for sure is the copied disk works fine in my 06. Use it at your own risk.

The Bit Torrent I am downloaded and am using for this is titled version 3.0 I don't notice any changes from version 2.0, but I have to trust that the title is correct and it is in fact version 3.0

If I am forced to get the updates on my yearly purchase anniversary I will see if they can be copied.

I picked up my car 3/30/06. It's been well over a year now
(14 months) and I have received any post card. I guess
I'll just have to call them.

Yes - at least version 3 works fine in my '05.

BTW, I have not been able to find any reference on any Nav screen display as to what version you are using in your car. And, if you have a "backup" copy of the disc, there is absolutely nothing in the disc files that tell you what version disc you have. I've had all 3 versions of the Nav disc, and the only way I could tell what version my backup disc had on it was to put it in my home computer, go to "my computer" and right click on the CD/DVD drive to explore the Nav disc. All the data files seem to be compiled in April every year. Version 1 had dates on all the data file of 4/04, version 2 was 4/05, and version 3 (the current disc) is 4/06. I guess they updated things in April this year and will have the version 4 disc out in late summer for the '08 model year.
