Hi All,

I have recently relocatd from the Rochester NY area to the Albuquerque area. One thing I noticed was the dropping by 1 octane for each grade of gas from NY. Instead of 87 they sell 86 here, 93 is 92. Does it have something to do with the altitude? Albuquerque is 5,000 feet above sea level, according the the welcome sign.

That's a big part of it, maybe the primary reason. You need less anti-knock protection (lower octane) when you've got less O2 to work with, I guess. But what the hell do I know.

I lived in Albuquerque for 4 years 1995-1998 stationed at Kirtland AFB. Loved it- killer food, scenery, skiing, hiking, weather, etc, etc. Gang crime was the only downer.
