rear oil seals seal when there is oil pressure to force the seals lips against the crank. i used to groove the rear main inserts to allow the oil to drain back into the pan when the engine was shut off. this i a big problem with inboard motor boats because the oil ends up in the bottom of the hull making a messcould anyone tell me how my 85 can leak more oil while sitting with the engine off and I can't even see a drip while its running????:bang:bang
