Well was playing with BMW M5 the other day while driving along Hwy 7 heading to Brampton, Ont.
Was driving with the girlfriend and minding my own biz when I pulled up behind a newer style M5.
The guy had 2 girls in the car so guess he was trying to show off or something because after we
got behind him he would go slow and then boot it and peel out and race ahead then?
So this contined on for a few lights as there was traffic ahead of us and single lane traffic.
Well eventually we hit a large uphill that goes into 2 lanes, so the dude
decides to boot into the passing lane and peddle it up the hill.
I figured he would do it so was right on his ass and when he hit it so did I and we flew up the hill
and over the crest in the passing lane till be hit 140km and I never was more then 10ft off his tail. :)

Anyways we get caught in some more traffic when it goes back to one lane
and finally make it into the outer edges of Brampton.
We get into a new wide section with 3 lanes and I boot it around him onto his
right side head to head, but then we get stopped by a red light.

The dude pulls up to me and starts reving with the girls laughing in the car.
My girlfriend looks at me with that look and sits back in her seat tightens her belt and put her
head back into the seat (she has obvously done this before).
Anyways the light goes green as the dude is reving up and down and I just punch the gas hard
and pop the clutch with good sync and we pop out off the hole (no tire slip) and just thrash him.
1st gear he was 1 car length back, shift to second and WOT it and we go to
130km/hr and he is at least 2 car length back!
We managed to get stopped at the next set of lights but he never pulled up beside me again,
and stayed about a car length back in the other lane.
Guess he was afraid to look at me, or was embarased? anyways I know how that feels as have
been thrashed before in my life of driving also.
We then continue on to Brampton, the girlfriend gives me the thumbs up, and says "You showed him babe"
she hates stuck up kids and their parents...ops their BMW's.
For the next few lights the guy never pulled up beside me again
and stayed back till he turned off heading north.

Anyways, long story short, I am surprised that the Vette could beat him as they are 5L V10 @ 500hp
but then they are pulling over 4100lbs and 2 girls, maybe they where fat or something?
My girlfriend is only 100lbs so its not even noticable other then .1 in the 1/4.
I am running Callaway intake Kooks long tube headers, Kooks catted crossover pipe, Corsa Pace Car
Pro exhaust and have a tune, still no 3.90 gears yet!

Nice run with the M5, but I hate to say the M5 should have beat you.

My dad has an E60 M5 and the cars run 12.2 to 12.5 in the 1/4 stock.

I imagine your car might run a 13.0-13.3 on a good day.

This was a driver's race and you clearly beat him.

Nothing like beating a $100k car, especially if the owner is cocky :D

hmm the fastest I have ever seen or heard of one going was 12.4 in the quarter. Most I have seen are around 12.6 ... around that of a standard c6 coupe.

The original poster has a 1999 C5 w/bolt-ons, agreed a drivers race on the street, but a 2006 M5 should make mince meat of him in the 1/4....

As we've all seen in the last few years, Canadians and Corvettes go together quite well. And your girlfriend is cool for going with the performance.

Thanks Guys.

I figured he would take me also but dont know how the weight difference
and Hp works out. Looking on the net the M5 looks like its about 4100lbs
compaired to our lighter car weight and also he had 2 girls in the car with him.

So either Hp/Weight works out to be the same or I just hooked up right with
no wheel spin and launched hard. I have never dyno'd my car so dont know
what the intake/headers/cat x-pipe/corsa + tune will give me in Hp?

Either way I took him out of the hole and he never caught up, go figure.

Dont play on the highway, with 500hp and its standard 7 speed smg it can hit around 217mph when the governer is removed. It accellerates harder on the freeway than an f430.

Its really only fun at high speeds though, anything under 100 and you cant even enjoy it, the electronics are like a policeman in the passenger seat.

Well, that's the beauty of torque. From a roll at higher speeds, it might have been a wee tighter;) In the coming years, as diesels become a bit more popular in the North America (maybe), some pretty little cars might be able to do some shocking things off the line.
