Boehner: I'll Drop Tax Cut for Rich If I Have To.

House Minority Leader Disputes Obama's Claim GOP Blocks Tax Cuts for Middle Class; Says Spending Cuts Only Way to Create Jobs

WASHINGTON — House Republican leader John Boehner says he would support extending tax cuts only for middle-class earners even though he considers it "bad policy" to exclude the highest-earning Americans from tax relief during a recession.

President Barack Obama's top economic adviser said Sunday he is happy that Boehner, R-Ohio, isn't willing to hold hostage an extension of tax cuts for those earning under $250,000 a year, or more than 97 percent of earners, to try to gain a continuation of breaks enjoyed by the wealthiest.

The argument between Obama and Republican lawmakers focuses on whether the debt-ridden country can afford to continue President George W. Bush's tax breaks, which are designed to expire next year.

Republicans argue that cutting back on government spending ought to be the focus of efforts aimed at beginning to balance the federal budget.

"I want to do something for all Americans who pay taxes," Boehner said in an interview taped Saturday for "Face the Nation" on CBS.

"If the only option I have is to vote for some of those tax reductions, I'll vote for it. ... If that's what we can get done, but I think that's bad policy.

I don't think that's going to help our economy."

Austan Goolsbee, the new chairman of the White House Council of Economic Advisers, said on ABC's "This Week" that he hopes that Democratic lawmakers who also want an across-the-board extension will join Obama and others in the party in supporting legislation aimed at the middle class before the November elections.

In response to Boehner's comments, Goolsbee said, "If he's for that, I would be happy."

At a White House news conference Friday, Obama described the Republican proposal for a tax extension for the highest of earners as an effort "to give an average of $100,000 to millionaires."

Instead, he said, both parties should move forward on their areas of agreement.

Love the wording used by the left...

“If the only option I have is to vote for some of those tax reductions, I’ll vote for them,” Mr. Boehner said, in response to questioning by the television show’s host, Bob Schieffer, who pointedly asked if Republicans were willing to hold the tax breaks for most Americans “hostage” to insist on continuing the lower rates for the highest earners.
Notice how with Rep , it is the "hostage" and "highest earners" or "wealthiest"

At least five Senate Democrats have already voiced public support for continuing the lower tax breaks at all income levels, at least temporarily.
But -when it's their own party... they make it about "caring and concern at all income levels.

Gross display...

Here's the full statement by Boehner -and the real meaning that MSNBC spun...

At least five Senate Democrats have already voiced public support for continuing the lower tax breaks at all income levels, at least temporarily. That suggests that Democrats could come up short of the 60 votes that they would need to overcome procedural obstacles for a bill that would allow the cuts to expire for the wealthy.

Mr. Boehner, in the interview, said he agreed with those Democrats and suggested he was content to let them fight the Democratic leadership and the White House.

“I think raising taxes in a very weak economy is a really, really bad idea,” Mr. Boehner said, adding, “I think there is a growing chorus on Capitol Hill to extend all of these tax rates.”
What the hell else is Boehner supposed to do ? He wishes for the tax cuts to remain permanent. We are in the minority. We can't get anything passed. It has been this way since 2006.

Further proof that the progressive agenda is to take ambiguities and construct alternate realities to fill in those ambiguities. In every case they prove it to be true.

Is that how you view it ? Check this out...

IF ! -Obama allows the tax cut to expire completely (his preferred choice) He has two years of veto's for any new bills that are put before him. But ! -if Boehner allows for their extension by voting for a reduced version... we have a better chance of reinstatement (due to their position as still being law) during Obamas rule. Without doubt... after Obamas departure. As an extra incentive... Boehner and the republicans will have one more example to show the American people (as if we needed anymore) of the wrong direction this president and the progressive democrats have taken this country. Increasing taxes on those making 250K or more... will further slow any hope of an already retreating recovery. This is not Bipartisan -this is defeat of an ideology that can now be pointed to in any of it's expansion -as creating wealth for this country.

I suggest Boehner caved-in to grab some of that poor to middle class vote ... 99% of America who falls into this category is an inducement and can intice even the most *progressively de-volved (neo)-conservative* to rethink his ways ... especially if he wants to keep his $200,000 a year job and lose the Boner Billboards ...

Only a Dem would consider someone keeping their own money a "gift". Their assumption is that all of your money belongs to congress and they spend it better than you and give you a gift of a few dollars to spend yourself. Welcome to the Union of Soviet Socialist Amerika.

Hey, it's your's and the progressive's ideology. I only recieved the explanation of how the model works from a doctor of clinical psychology during a phone call as part of a bigger conversation. He actually studied it as part of his doctorate thesis.

It answered every question I had as to why the progressive's act they way they do. Fascinating. You're just an advanced case.
