hey guys i have a 1993 auto LT1, when i had my 5.0 the gears were the best mod i ever did. I would like to have it done on my 93, heres the question. What is the average price for the labor? My mustang was 500 for the gears, bearing kit, and labor. i doubt its going to be that cheap for this car. Finally would 3.73 be a wise decision or would you recommend going in a different route. Thanks

I hear ya, that's the only reason I've yet to drop the coin on it. It's quite a chunk just for gears... but I know I'll eventually toss reason (26mpg) to the wind and want that extra performance.

Actually looking into the DIY rebuild route with the help of a buddy. Would save a couple hundred bones.

I have a set of 3:11's for sale :D :D

I used to have 3:11's in my vette when i first got it, loved them, excellent performance, excellent gas mileage.

Dont have a vette anymore so its time to get rid of them.

I just did my car from 259's to 373's. The difference is amazing. I bought them from Summit. The gears and the bearing kit was $375. I paid $600 to have it installed. I should have asked about the labor up front. I think I could have got it done for $400 if I had bargained a little. But all that being said I am so happy I did it. Of course I see new tires in my future...:D

I have the 3.73 gears in my vette and I love them. I would get them again in a heart beat. I spent about $800 on the ring and pinion, and the install kit (spacers etc.) I got mine from randysringandpinion.com. Great guys to deal with and they know their stuff.

I removed the rear differential from the car and drove it to a local mechanic shop and had them install the 3.73's for about $200. So in total I spent about $1,000 - $1,100 for gears + install (partial install really, since I still had to reinstall the rear end once the gears were installed into the diff.)

I'm getting ready to change the gears in my 93 also, but I went with 3.54s. I have the gears (Richmond Gear) spedo gear and seal and install kit sitting in the garage. I am looking for a center section to put them in, then I can just change the center section and I'll still have the original with original gears if I ever change my mind or sell the car.

Does anyone here have 1/4 or 1/8 mile drag strip times from before and after their gear swap?

Jim
